Noisy neighbours can be seriously irritating - especially if you feel embarrassed to mention something to them either face to face or via a note.

One man was left feeling "at a loss" with the person next door, however, as he was "yelling at regular intervals multiple times a day since he moved in", and he was getting irritated as he could "hear him through the floor."

At first, he was convinced that the neighbour must be "weightlifting", but after doing a little more digging, they were horrified to realise that they were simply doing a daily activity - pooing.

He took to Reddit to write: "My neighbour (apartment building) has been yelling at regular intervals multiple times a day since he moved in. I could hear him through the floor and at first I thought that maybe he ate something weird and was having a tough time in the bathroom, but then after it had been going on for weeks I thought it couldn't be from the bathroom, he must be weightlifting or something?

"So whatever, this is happening multiple times a day every day, I try to put on music or stomp on the floor so he quiets down. I'm committed to believing that he is doing a weird workout multiple times a day because I can't believe someone has that much trouble pooping daily. But today things changed when I went downstairs to do laundry which happens to be under his bathroom.

"From there it was pretty clear that he's yelling and grunting from the toilet and I was right when I first noticed it! I obviously ran back upstairs because I'm not interested in listening to him poop from below the pipes, but I don't know what to do now! I wish I could ignore it, but I can clearly hear him yelling if there isn't music or TV on, and it happens many times a day and I work from home. Could this be a medical condition? Why is he yelling while he poops?"

In the comments, someone joked: "Sounds like some crazy s**t!" Another suggested: "Maybe you could leave a note saying that sound travels in the building and that you've been hearing some noises that he may want to keep private. He probably doesn’t know he's being heard."

A Redditor explained that it may well be a medical condition, writing: "I have a bladder condition called interstitial cystitis. My pelvic area hurts and burns. It's bad and it gets worse when I pee. I've lived in apartments and neighbours have had to deal with me screaming and swearing in pain then screaming even worse when I go. It's not a constant pain so when it happens it's sudden then I feel like I'm in labor only worse for a few hours sometimes days only for it to get more intense when I pee which I do sometimes 20 or more times a day.

"So yes this could be a medical condition. I knew someone with a fissure in that area and heard them scream every time they went if they didn't take their supplements. There are a lot of reasons this could be happening. There are a lot of medical conditions that could cause this and some chronic pain patients just can't hold back when stuff hurts. They scream out."

The original poster responded: "This is what's making me hold back from saying anything. If he has a medical condition I don't want to make him feel uncomfortable by saying I can hear him. Thanks for sharing, maybe I'll just try to ignore him!"

Another was less compassionate, writing: "Equally disgusting and concerning. Record the noises and complain to management. If you think it's too much you could leave a note under his door asking if everything is okay and that it's concerning the amount of screams that you can hear in your apartment on a daily basis."
