Luckiest couple ever win $1million lottery three times in just five years

A couple may be the most odds-defying partnership in the United States - after hitting a $1million jackpot three times in 5 years.

Janet Pflaumer-Phillips and her husband Kevin won a scarcely-believable three million dollars across three lottery wins, putting themselves in a very comfortable financial position. The Lakeville pair hit the jackpot in 2014, 2016 and most recently in 2019.

Kevin’s first win came around from the state lottery in April 2014 - kicking off their streak of luck when he bought a ‘100x the Cash’ scratch card ticket for just $10 from Trucchi’s Supermarket at 438 WestGrove Street in Middleborough, Massachusetts. After this purchase the lives of the Plymouth County couple changed for ever - as their fortune kept growing.

It was only two years later that Kevin, in his mid-60s, walked into a store called Shaw’s at 95 Washington Street in Canton, Massachusetts - and once again brought home a whopping $1million after buying a $5 scratch card. But the lucky pair’s winnings didn’t stop there.

In 2019, Janet entered an auto repair shop in Middleborough and won a third cool million after buying a ‘Diamond Millions’ ticket for $30. The shop from which Pflaumer-Phillips bought the ticket - A&A Petro at 381 West Grove Street in Middleborough - will now receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, according to the state lottery.

She told the Boston Globe that the couple have been buying lottery tickets for 20 years - and only now have they began paying off. They did not specify how often they buy tickets, but if it were $15 per week - the average cost of their three winning tickets - it would amount to around $15,600 in two decades. That figure has no doubt been worth it.

Following the second winning, Massachusetts Lottery said in a press release that Kevin decided to take his winnings in a single one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes - and planned to head to Disney World with some of that money. Janet will use some of her money to donate to animal rescue organisations - and will help out family and friends.

“It feels good to help family and friends and to know that [Kevin] can retire,” Pflaumer-Phillips said. The third windfall will go towards helping out friends and family.
