Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner believe they will reach an "amicable resolution" regarding the custody of their children following "successful mediation" sessions.

The former couple have reportedly reached a temporary custody agreement for their two young daughters — three-year-old Willa and one-year-old Delphine. They believe an "amicable resolution on all issues between them is forthcoming," according to new court documents.

Willa and Delphine will be staying with their mother from October 9 until October 21. Sophie is allowed to travel with her children throughout the UK and US during that time period, meaning Sophie will be able to return to London as she had previously requested.

Sophie had earlier asked a New York court to order their children back to her physical custody after claiming Joe was refusing to return the children's passports and had them on an "unauthorised" holiday. According to new court documents, the Game of Thrones star will then take her daughters to Joe on October 21 and they will stay with him until November 2.

The documents, which were obtained by Page Six, state that Joe and Sophie will continue to each get two weeks with their daughters until January 7. This means the children will spend Thanksgiving with their father and Christmas with their mother.

The custody agreement comes after the former couple were involved in four days of mediation in New York. New court documents reveal the mediation was "productive" for Joe and Sophie.

Joe and Sophie released a joint statement after reaching a custody agreement. They told the publication: "After a productive and successful mediation, we have agreed that the children will spend time equally in loving homes in both the US and the UK. We look forward to being great co-parents."

The update comes after a long custody battle following Joe's decision to file for divorce from Sophie after four years of marriage. He claimed their marriage was "irretrievably broken".

Joe and Sophie were reportedly on the rocks for months before the musician filed for divorce. Sources had claimed that an argument took place on Joe's birthday on August 15, which is said to have been the final straw for him. Sources close to Joe told TMZ that the final straw in the relationship was when Joe heard or saw the Game of Thrones actress "say or do something" through their Ring camera.
