One participant who won over the audience was 58-year-old widower Roger Hawes, a postman from Derbyshire. He was persuaded to join the show by his children following the tragic loss of their mother, Joanna, who died 18 months before his show appearance after being diagnosed with cancer. Roger appeared on the show with his daughter Jess, 28, and they are currently enjoying their newfound fame from reality TV.

Alex, 26, Ben, 22, and 28-year-old Jess appear to share a close sibling relationship, spending a significant amount of time together. Roger also seems to have a good rapport with his son-in-law Ryan Brown, Jess' husband. Ryan frequently accompanies the Hawes family on trips and features prominently on Roger's Instagram account, along with Alex's partner Max.

Jess, a network rail planner, married her partner Ryan in a beautiful ceremony in 2019. They currently reside with their cherished pet dog, Bruno. Jess, along with her siblings Alex and Ben, nominated their father for the show My Mum, Your Dad, signalling their approval for him to start dating again.

In an interview with ITV, Jess shared: "It was a joint thing with my brother and sister and it was our way of basically telling him that we were happy for him to start dating, if that was something he wanted to do."

She added: "It was a cop out on our part really, as it meant we didn't need to sit down and actually say it. It was a sneaky way of saying, 'Oh look at this, do you want to look into this?' Never actually expected anything to come of it."
