Doctor Who debuted a brand new trailer for its highly anticipated 60th anniversary episodes on Saturday night as Doctor David Tennant reunited with former trusted companion Donna Noble, played by beloved Catherine Tate.

Fans of the BBC show were left in tears as the trailer gave a glimpse into the three specials airing later this year for the 60th anniversary with danger hinted at for Donna as her memory has been restored even though it was made clear that if she ever remembers the Doctor she will die. Sadly, the Doctor warns he doesn't know if he can save her life this time.

Elsewhere in the clip, viewers were given an insight into the return of UNIT and Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and a sneak peak at Neil Patrick Harris' villain. Fans were left emotional by the trailer which also included a brief glimpse of new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa.

One excited fan tweeted: "LITERALLY IN TEARS FROM THE DOCTOR WHO TRAILER OH MY GOOOOOD DOCTORDONNAAAAAAA," while another wrote: "Doctor who trailer gave me chills we are so f*****g back baby."

"OH MY GOD. IT'S HAPPENING. NOBODY PANIC. NOPE JUST CRYING INSTEAD #DoctorWho," a third added and someone else shared: "I actually cried real tears.! These specials are going to be so damn good. The quality and the graphics are phenomenal, the story is delicious, and the acting has already got me strapped in. Let’s gooooooo!! #DoctorWho."

Another said: "I haven't been this excited about Doctor Who in a VERY long time!" And a sixth fan remarked: "Can't stop watching this INCREDIBLE trailer! Why can't it be November now?!?! #DoctorWho."

Speaking about his return to the series, David Tennant told Entertainment Weekly he was thrilled to be stepping back into the Time Lord's shoes. He said: "Oh, joyous. Just an unexpected treat to get to revisit something that had been such a lovely wonderful experience 15 years ago. To get to have another proper runaround, in an albeit slightly different long coat, was a joy I never really imagined."

Former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies, who originally rebooted the series in 2005, has also returned having taken over from Chris Chibnall.
