Sean Dyche confirms Everton are trying to renegotiate Dele Alli deal with Spurs

Everton manager Sean Dyche has said the club have explored the prospect of renegotiating their deal for Dele Alli in the light of financial challenges, as discussions continue over the club's future ownership..

Dele joined from Tottenham midway through the 2021-22 season in a cut-price deal with a number of add-ons included. One of these would see the Toffees required to pay Spurs £10m after his first 20 appearances for the club.

The midfielder played 13 times for Everton before joining Besiktas on loan for the 2022-23 season, but is back at Goodison Park and working his way back to full fitness after suffering a setback in training. Dyche has now suggested director of football Kevin Thelwell may need to speak with Tottenham with a view to reaching a resolution.

"[Dele] is not ready [to play] yet, when he is fit and well I am sure Kev will go to Tottenham and say 'Right, how can we make this work for everyone'," Dyche told reporters ahead of Everton's trip to Brentford. "It has never been at that stage so we have to wait for it.

"He was training with us, warming up and doing the drills, and he strikes the ball and is knocked back to square one. It was a real blow to him. He’d had an operation on his groin, they internally stitched it like an anchor inside his body, and one of them popped out having a shot and that was it.

"It was incredibly frustrating because he was feeling great. He is still a bit away yet, nowhere near training with us but is beginning to work with the sports science people."

Dyche's comments come after Everton owner Farhad Moshiri agreed a deal to sell the club to 777 Partners. The American investment firm already hold stakes in a number of clubs in Europe, South America and Australia, but Dyche confirmed the takeover is still some way away and the subject of his future as manager hasn't been raised.

"No, nothing like that," the former Burnley boss said after 777 managing partner Josh Wander visited Goodison Park. "It's very casual at this stage. They made it clear to us who were in the meeting that the deal has got a long way to go to get to its finality.

"Most of it was very casual to be honest. It was just a feel of what I've learned in my time here – and others were involved in the chat of course – but on the football side of things, a feel of what I've learned here, the challenges ahead and stuff like that but it was a very casual meeting.

"At this early stage they were very honest and promoted the thought that it's still not done and it's going to take time to get the deal done in the sense of all the fit and proper tests and all that sort of stuff. I think they were more getting a feel of what our thoughts were and what my thoughts were since coming into the club rather than giving us any directives on what they're planning, it was more absorbing some of the feel of the club and getting a feel of it.

"It was a broad brush sort of thing, it wasn't the minutiae of it. We were talking of the feel of it, the past meets the present and the future and how to bring it all together and forwards and the challenge that we had, the market and the finances and all the things that have been going on since I've been here."
