Man Utd reach Jadon Sancho decision as details of Erik ten Hag chat emerge

As Manchester United get ready to resume their Premier League campaign, there are plenty of distractions for Erik ten Hag and his side.

Injuries had already taken their toll before the international break, with Lisandro Martinez hoping to be fit to feature after being forced off in the defeat at Arsenal. It hasn't been the best of weeks for all of those involved for their countries, either, with Harry Maguire enduring a tough few days with England.

And that's before we get onto the matter of Jadon Sancho. United's state of play with the former Borussia Dortmund star is just one of the subjects as Mirror Football brings you the latest lines from around Old Trafford.

Sancho decision made

Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho will be unavailable for this weekend's game against Brighton after his public falling-out with Erik ten Hag. The England international was left out against Arsenal, with Ten Hag later saying his displays in training were behind the decision.

Sancho hit back, claiming in a social media post that he was being made a scapegoat. He has since deleted the offending comments, while there have been suggestions he has begun clear-the-air talks with the boss.

Based on the latest club statement, though, it appears the Brighton game is too soon for a return. "Jadon Sancho will remain on a personal training programme away from the first-team group, pending resolution of a squad discipline issue," the statement reads.

"As a mum seeing the level of negative and abusive comments in which my son is receiving from some fans, pundits and the media is disgraceful and totally unacceptable to any walk of life never mind someone who works his socks off for club and country," Zoe Maguire's statement reads. "I was there in the stand as usual, it's not acceptable what's been created, over nothing.

"I understand that in the football world there are ups and downs, positives and negatives but what Harry receives has gone far beyond 'football'. For me seeing him go through what he's going through is not ok.

"I would hate to have to see any other parents or players go through this in the future, especially the young boys and girls breaking through the ranks today. Harry has a massive heart and it's a good job he's mentally strong and can handle it as others might not be able too [sic]. I wish this sort of abuse on nobody!"

Garner details Ten Hag talks

Former Manchester United midfielder James Garner has shed light on the last conversation he had with Erik ten Hag before leaving Old Trafford. Garner impressed on loan at Nottingham Forest in the 2021-22 season, but was sold to Everton shortly after rather than being integrated into Ten Hag's first team.

"Ten Hag is a very approachable guy but is very strict," the midfielder told BBC Sport. "He takes no-one bending the rules. He will say it how it is and will punish people if they have done the wrong things. My talk with him was easy.

"I asked him plain and simple whether I was going to be in the squad or if he saw me playing a part. I felt the conversation did not go as well as I wanted and I made the decision to move."
