Danelo Cavalcante has been on the run for 10 days after escaping from prison at the end of August, and since then, he's managed to evade the cops despite being spotted at least eight times.

Considered extremely dangerous by the Pennsylvania State Police and other authorities who are on the hunt for the convicted murderer, Cavalcante, 34, has resorted to his cunning trickery and evident ability to evade police search parties.

The killer escaped from the Chester County Prison on August 31 by crab-walking up a set of prison walls, then hopping up onto the roof after weaving his way through barbed wire. He then sprinted across the top of the facility before jumping down and running off.

His disappearance went largely unnoticed for about an hour. Authorities only noted his absence after a headcount was conducted and he wasn't present. The tower guard on duty that day was fired.

But Cavalcante hasn't been quite as cunning or cautious when it comes to evading security cameras and wandering residents and even state troopers.

Having escaped on a Thursday, he was spotted in Pcopson Township resident Ray Drummond's home the evening after stealing food after having broken in, the man told WPVI.

Then, on Saturday, Cavalcante was captured on security footage about 1.5 miles (2.4km) from the prison from which he had made his getaway, CNN reported. Sometime around then or slightly after, a state trooper also reportedly saw the escaped convict in the area, but the authorities were unable to apprehend him.

A security camera at Longwood Gardens, a botanical garden about 3 miles (4.8km) from the prison, captured Cavalcante on Monday at around 8:21pm local time. He had been walking north, then headed back south over an hour later.

The following evening on Tuesday, a resident caught him in a creek bed in Pennsbury Township, just 2.5 miles (4km) southeast of the prison, but he fled into the woods before the authorities could arrive and search teams were unable to locate him afterward, Pennsylvania State Police Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens said at a press conference.

Search parties were back at Longwood Gardens on Thursday evening after Cavalcante was allegedly spotted in the area around that time. And another sighting reportedly occurred that same evening, but Bivens was not forthcoming with information.

He was then spotted twice this Saturday, September 9, in Phoenixville, about 24 miles (38.6km) northeast of the prison, caught on a Ring doorbell camera at the house of a former associate he had visited in a ploy to obtain assistance.

Bivens said he hijacked a van from a local dairy farm, then drove it all the way up there, outside the initial search radius the authorities had established. He had also changed his appearance, donning new clothes and shaving off his beard.

Around 400 people have been on the ground searching for the murderer, but none have yet been successful in finding and apprehending the convict. More were set to join the search on Monday, Bivens said, but as Cavalcante's no longer in the search area, the plans are likely to change.

Bivens said the most recent sightings on Saturday were a "minor setback" and that he and the authorities would "aggressively continue" their search efforts.
