Seaside town hardly anyone has heard of as its overshadowed by famous neighbour

A hidden seaside town which features breath-taking beaches, a historic chapel and unbeatable food has been overshadowed by its neighbour for years.

Selsey is surrounded by beautiful quaint beaches which offer stunning views of the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth. It's less popular than other locations in Sussex, such as Camber Sands, Lancing and Haven, but it gives all three a run for its money.

Not far from West Wittering, the seaside is located at the end of the Manhood PeninsuIa and is so untouched by light pollution that you can spot the Milky Way throughout the year, with the best months listed between June to August.

Holidaymakers looking for some authentic cuisine can take a bite from a fresh crab sandwich or sit down at the Lifeboat's Inn for crispy food and drinks, reports MyLondon. The eatery takes its name from the RNLI Lifeboat station which has been saving lives since it was established in 1861. It's also a museum. If you head back towards the town, there are plenty of fish and chip shops, as well as restaurants including The Boulevard Selsey and Waves.

Selsey's easily accessible beaches range from Oval Beach and the East Beach which stretches towards Pagham Harbour. The Marine Beach provides picturesque views of the Isle of Wight as well as the range of ships in the English Channel. Thanks to its location, Selsey is also considered one of the sunniest areas in the country.

The historic church of St Wilfrid's Chapel has been described by reviewers as 'interesting and unique' while also being situated near Pagham Harbour. One reviewer on Tripadvisor wrote: "I stopped by whilst walking around Pagham Harbour. Well worth a visit; a castle motte adjoins it. Full of history."

In terms of places to stay, there are a number of options including; The Seal Bay Resort, The Seal and The Coast Yard at St Andrews Lodge. There are also homes on the seafront that are perfect for a family getaway. With countless options to do some water sports or go diving to see what lies behind the water, Selsey is worthy of consideration even though it may have a more famous neighbour.

Getting to Selsey takes around 2 and a half hours via the A3. By train, you can get a train from Victoria to Chichester and then a bus to Selsey which takes around the same amount of time.
