Jeremy Hunt has revealed that this year's Autumn Statement will be held on November 22.

The Chancellor will update MPs on the country's finances and set out changes to taxes and spending.

Mr Hunt is under pressure from Tory backbenchers to reduce taxes after the Government hiked them to their highest level in more than 70 years.

Asked at the weekend about the prospect of cutting taxes when he delivers his Autumn Statement, Mr Hunt said there is "nothing" he wants more than to bring the "tax burden" down, saying one way to do so is to grow the economy.

He insisted "good progress" is being made on that even though the growth figures have been pretty poor.

Many families are struggling with the cost of living. Inflation, the rate at which prices increase, has come down but Mr Hunt admitted at the weekend that it could go up again.

August's inflation figures are expected to be published later this month. Put to him that inflation could have risen in August, Mr Hunt told the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg programme: "I do think we may see a blip in inflation in September."

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak pledged to halve inflation this year, and would need to see the figure hit about 5.3% to meet his pledge. Latest data shows the rate slowed to 6.8% in the year to July.
