A hairdresser has shared the main thing she hates that her clients do when they come in for an appointment. Posting a video online, hair expert Stephanie Plastow said it makes her blood boil when people turn up with hair that is greasy and matted. She said she considers it rude and disrespectful.

It also may surprise people to hear that hairdressers can actually turn you away if they don't like the state of your locks. "The salon has every right to cancel the appointment and charge a cancellation fee," Stephanie said. She added that often clients will come in and say they haven't washed their hair and would laugh while telling her "I thought I'd save that for you".

Posting on her TikTok account, Stephanie showed videos of a client's matted hair as an example. She wrote: "It isn't funny though when their hair colour doesn't lift as cleanly as it could of… or the extensions slip. Wash your hair before coming to your appointment, honestly it's like going to your dentist without brushing your teeth. Or add on a wash and blow dry."

Her video has caused a debate online, as some people had no idea they were meant to wash their hair before going to the salon. "OMG, I didn't know this! Even if the wash is part of the service? I've never gone in with disgusting hair, but I only shampoo 2x/week!" one person wrote. Other people, however, thought her post was disrespectful and uncalled for. "I love when hairstylists post this type of content so people know where NOT to go," one person commented. "This is why I only go to one person… every single high-end salon I've been to has been so judgmental," said another.

While Stephanie's post caused controversy, there were many who supported her comments. "I agree, I always wash my hair before I go to the hairdressers as I wouldn't want anyone to have to touch my greasy hair," one person wrote. "How do people not understand the difference between going a couple of days between washes and literally not washing for weeks?" another said. A third person agreed, saying: "All the hating comments.. yes you don't need to wash it the day before but if you leave it for weeks. Like this picture.. your colour won’t lift/work."
