Emmerdale's Rosie Bentham insists she's no man-eater like character Gabby Thomas
Rosie Bentham says she couldn't be further from character Gabby Thomas in real life and says men often approach her for an embarrassing reason.
The actress – who has played saucy Gabby since 2016 – says she is nothing like the man eater and is always well behaved on a night out. But despite being a famous soap star, she says some men who do chat her up don't watch Emmerdale themselves.
They do often approach her with requests for their mums, though, as Rosie chatted before the show defends its Best Serial Drama title at the National Television Awards on Tuesday night. The 22-year-old says she's still loving her time on the ITV programme and hopes it is another night to remember.
Rosie Bentham has revealed why men often come up to her on a night out (Instagram/@rosie_bentham)"When people first meet me they think I’m this 'ready to give everything to everyone' kind of girl, but I’m like 'No, you’ve got to try a lot harder than that with me, you can’t just walk through the door'," she told The Sun. "'If that was Gabby she’d be raring to go and be like 'Come on then, let’s go upstairs' which is obviously a lot of fun to play, but I’m nothing like that. It’s usually when we all go out and I’m with the other cast members that I’m more likely to get recognised.
"You’ll see people next to you scrolling through your Instagram page just to check it is you – a lot of guys my age don’t watch Emmerdale, but they’ll come up and ask me to do videos for their mums."

Emmerdale fans think they have rumbled Gabby's downfall after an "all time new low" on Friday's episode. Gabby recently left the village to go on a long holiday to get over her heartbreak following her split from fiancé Nicky. Prior to her break, Gabby was left devastated after she discovered her fiancé Nicky was gay and using her to get an in at Home Farm.
Rosie plays troubled singled mum Gabby in the ITV soapWhile earlier this month, Gabby, who was still struggling with Nicky's admission, leant in to kiss Dawn Fletcher's husband Billy, leaving him horrified as he rejected her advances. However, Gabby returned to the village this week, with the character and Billy both agreeing to keep their indiscretion a secret.
However, this all changed on Friday's episode when a worse for wear Gabby blackmailed Billy over their kiss, insisting he beat up Nicky, saying: "You should never keep secrets from your wife, Billy, it never ends well!", pointing out that despite her trying to kiss him she could "plant the seed of doubt" and "let Dawn do the rest".
Soap watchers were left furious over Gabby's behaviour but others were quick to point out her downfall as they insisted Billy just tell Dawn the truth. One person said: "I hope Billy tells Gabby to shove it & tells Dawn about the kiss. #Emmerdale", a different account put: "Billy, just go and tell Dawn what happened. Who do you think she’ll believe? #Emmerdale", another follower wrote: "#Emmerdale Gabby blackmailing Billy to beat up Nicky is daft. Billy should just tell Dawn that she went after him."
She explained why her character tried to kiss Billy. "It was a moment of madness that she comes to regret. She’s seeking validation from any man. She’s completely lost; I just picture Gabby waking up in the morning and feeling like her life is chaos," she told Inside Soap magazine.
Speaking of what's to come, she shared: "She needs to reset. Heartbreak can be long and tedious but she knows that she needs to get it all out. The tears need to come. Hopefully she’ll come back with a different head on with regards to the Nicky situation," but it looks like it won't be plain sailing as Rosie added: "Gabby has a lot on her plate and the next few months are chaotic."
