Man Utd takeover live - Sheikh Jassim's transfer target plus Glazers U-turn fear

Thursday was a good night for Manchester United, who fought back to claim a famous victory over Barcelona to advance into the last 16 of the Europa League.

On the takeover front, news has dried up in recent days.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani have officially lodged bids for the club, but it has since emerged that Joel Glazer may have some 'reservations' about selling up. Understandably, that has sparked some concern among fans.

A week on from the 'soft deadline' for bids, some plans have started to emerge - including an interesting transfer stance from Sheikh Jassim.

Make sure you stay tuned throughout the day so that you don't miss a single update...

Ten Hag reacts to Barcelona triumph

Erik ten Hag referenced Real Madrid's crushing victory over Manchester United's arch-rivals, Liverpool, after his side beat Barcelona to advance to the Europa League last 16.

The Red Devils came from behind to defeat Barca 2-1 at Old Trafford and 4-3 on aggregate on Thursday night. The result came two days after Liverpoolsuffered a humbling 5-2 drubbing at home by Los Blancos in the Champions League, giving up a two-goal lead as their defence was torn apart.

Remarkably, Real Madrid are eight points behind leaders Barca in the LaLiga title race, making United's victory over the Catalan club even more impressive. A buoyant Ten Hag went out of his way to reference this fact during his post-match interview on another historic European night for his club.

Ferdinand makes prediction for Carabao Cup final

Rio Ferdinand has backed his former club Manchester United to win the Carabao Cup final against a Newcastle side without first-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope.

England international Pope was sent off in the Magpies' Premier League defeat by Liverpool, meaning he is suspended for the Wembley showpiece. With second-choice keeper Martin Dubravka cup-tied, one of Loris Karius and Mark Gillespie will be making a first appearance of the season against Erik ten Hag's side.

Ferdinand knows what it takes to win this trophy. He started United's 4-0 win over Wigan in the 2006 final and captained Sir Alex Ferguson's team to a penalty shootout victory over Tottenham three years later, and has tipped his old side to come out on top once more.

Garnacho slammed

Alejandro Garnacho has been criticised by the Spanish press for mocking Barcelona midfielder Pedri in his latest Instagram post.

Garnacho, 18, came off the bench to help Manchester United beat Barcelona at Old Trafford on Thursday night. The visitors opened the scoring through Robert Lewandowski, but second-half goals from Fred and Antony secured a 4-3 aggregate win for United.

The result means Erik ten Hag's side will play Barcelona's La Liga rivals Real Betis in the last 16 of the Europa League. Garnacho, who born in Madrid, was delighted with the win - but his Instagram post has angered Barcelona supporters and the Spanish press.

Rashford shares cryptic injury update

Marcus Rashford has shared a potentially concerning injury update just days ahead of Manchester United ’s Carabao Cup final against Newcastle.

The in-form striker played 88 minutes of Erik ten Hag’s side’s dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Barcelona in Thursday’s Europa League clash. The England international was replaced by midfielder Scott McTominay with two minutes of the game remaining.

It was just the fourth game in Rashford’s 18 appearances since the World Cup in which he failed to find the net and while not obviously sustaining an injury in the win against the Catalan giants, he did post an update to his Instagram which is likely to concern United fans.

Ten Hag decision proving to be right

United had several managers on their radar last season - one of whom was Graham Potter.

Erik ten Hag was the man they eventually turned to, whilst Potter has also got a move, but things at Chelsea are not going to plan.

Here's a look at why Ten Hag won the battle - and why it is looking a shrewd move.

Schmeichel identifies "odd one out"

Peter Schmeichel believes Erik ten Hag should have given an opportunity to a youngster rather than sign Wout Weghorst during January transfer window.

The Dutchman, 30, joined Manchester United on loan after Cristiano Ronaldo left the club by mutual consent during the World Cup in Qatar. Ronaldo's contract was ripped up after he criticised his employers during an interview with Piers Morgan.

United, who are in the midst of a possible takeover, could not afford a big-money transfer and signed Weghorst from Burnley on a temporary basis instead. Red Devils legend Schmeichel thinks that was the wrong decision by Ten Hag due to the striker's poor form.

Antony gives Neville plenty to think about

Antony made a triumphant return from injury on Thursday night to send Manchester United into the last 16 of the Europa League.

The Brazil international, who celebrates his 23rd birthday on Friday, came off the bench to score United's winner against Barcelona at Old Trafford. It was his first goal for Erik ten Hag's side since the 3-0 victory against Charlton in January's Carabao Cup tie.

Antony has faced criticism in recent weeks due to his modest record and huge price tag. The winger has scored just six goals and provided one assist for United since his £85million transfer from Ajax last summer, with Gary Neville demanding more from him.

Weghorst speaks on half-time sub

Wout Weghorst admits Erik ten Hag was correct to replace him at half-time during Manchester United's dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Barcelona.

United sealed their place in the last 16 of the Europa League with a second half performance turning the match at Old Trafford on its head after Erik ten Hag’s side had trailed at the break via a penalty from Robert Lewandowski.

That had put the Red Devils on course for an exit following last week’s pulsating 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou but second half strikes from Fred and Antony ensured they completed an impressive win from behind to advance. That keeps their hopes of European glory alive this campaign, with Ten Hag's men still in four competitions.

Weghorst was replaced at the break after an ineffective first-half performance - and he had no complaints with the decision after the match.

Kroos' comments on Casemiro now make sense

Toni Kroos launched something of a rant when Casemiro left Real Madrid for Manchester United.

The Germany international took aim at the Premier League, pointing out that an English side hadn't won an international trophy in 2022, and suggested that players only move to the UK for a payday.

He also name-dropped Casemiro, admitting he was "surprised" and "sad" to see his teammate of eight years say goodbye to the Bernabeu for Old Trafford.

ICYMI: Glazers spark U-turn fears

It emerged earlier this week that Joel Glazer has some 'reservations' about selling the club.

A number of bids have been lodged to purchase the club from the Glazers, however, Joel's stance meant that Manchester United's share price dipped to a two-week low earlier this week.

Ten Hag wary of "annoying" Newcastle

Erik ten Hag has warned his players they will need to be patient to find a way through Newcastle - who boast the best defensive record in the Premier League this season - when Manchester United take on the Magpies in the Carabao Cup final.

"I think it's a great team with a clear philosophy about how they want to play the game, the key word is intensity," Ten Hag said of Newcastle on Friday.

"They do really well. They're an annoying team to play against, so we have to find a way to win. They try to annoy you. We have to make sure that we play our game and we focus on our game."

Ferdinand hails Antony's impact

He's by no means hit the heights expected after his huge move from Ajax, but it was Antony who sent United past Barcelona in the Europa League.

Ferdinand said on the Brazilian: "That's what you want to see. People coming off the bench and making an impact. Not sulking, adding to the cause"

Martial still an absentee

The Frenchman has been missing for several weeks with January arrival Wout Weghorst filling in.

Ten Hag has confirmed that Anthony Martial is still sidelined and won't be available for Sunday's final.

Rashford injury update

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag does not know if in-form Marcus Rashford will be available for the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

The 25-year-old has been in sparkling form this season and helped the Red Devils to beat Barcelona in the Europa League knockout play-off round on Thursday night.

Rashford was substituted in the 88th minute and seemed to hint on Instagram he had picked up a knock, posting an image of him walking down the touchline looking in discomfort accompanied with a bandaged emoji. Further footage showed Rashford limping away from Old Trafford after the clash.

Ten Hag details Barcelona team-talk

Erik ten Hag has revealed his half-time team talk was all about instilling belief in his players as they mounted a famous comeback to beat Barcelona in the Europa League on Thursday.

The Dutch coach experienced his finest hours in the United dugout to date as he watched his team overturn a one-goal deficit to book their place in the last 16 in front of a euphoric Old Trafford crowd.

It was quite the turnaround by the Red Devils, who also fought back from a goal down in the first leg to earn a 2-2 draw. Robert Lewandowski's penalty had given Barcelona the advantage when the teams went in at the break in the second leg, prompting some words of encouragement from Ten Hag to his United players, who he demanded use Casemiro and Aaron Wan-Bissaka more.

Xavi's Man Utd prediction rings true

Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez wasn't shy about dishing out praise to Erik ten Hag in the build-up to this week's eagerly anticipated Europa League showdown with Manchester United.

Xavi's side headed to Old Trafford off the back of a 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp last week knowing they would need to outwit a team that has made significant progress under a new manager in recent months.

And after talking up Fred prior to Thursday night's match, Xavi was forced to watch on as Manchester United's Brazilian midfielder excelled to dump Barcelona out of Europe.

Ten Hag outlines De Jong stance

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag clearly thinks very highly of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong and this was shown yet again by his comments surrounding Fred's performance on Thursday night.

The Red Devils spent the entirety of last summer trying to pry De Jong away from the Camp Nou to no avail, but it was evident how much admiration Ten Hag has for his former Ajax ace when United hosted Barcelona at Old Trafford. The two teams played out a 2-2 thriller in the first leg of their Europa League round-of-32 clash last week and the tie was evenly balanced ahead of the second leg.

United ran out 2-1 winners on their own patch to dump De Jong and Barcelona out of the competition, but Ten Hag's praise for Fred following the full-time whistle proves just what he thinks of the Dutch midfield maestro.

Pique in X-rated Europa League reaction

Gerard Pique did not hold back in his assessment of Barcelona's Europa League exit at the hands of Manchester United, describing it as a "f****** mess".

United completed a dramatic comeback victory over the Catalan giants as they progressed through to the Round of 16. Goals from Fred and Antony after the break turned the tie around after Robert Lewandowski's penalty had given the Blaugrana the lead.

It was another fine night for United under their impressive boss Erik ten Hag and continues their momentum, just three days ahead of the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle as the club look to end their six-year trophy drought.

Fernandes draws Rooney comparison

Bruno Fernandes drew comparisons with Wayne Rooney from Manchester United legends after his "sacrifice" for the team in their historic win over Barcelona.

The Red Devils came from behind at Old Trafford to edge past the Spanish giants 4-3 on aggregate and book their place in the Europa League last 16. Goals from Fred and substitute Antony overturned the deficit after Robert Lewandowski's opener from the penalty spot to claim a huge scalp for Erik ten Hag as excitement around his new era continues to build.

Fernandes captained United in both legs and was instrumental in the win on home soil on Thursday, despite being shunted out to the less familiar role on the right-wing. It is a position the Portuguese midfielder has taken up before when called upon, and ex-United stars Paul Scholes and Robin van Persie feel his willingness to do so is akin to that of their former teammate Rooney.

Xavi trolled by Man Utd after Fernandes dig

Manchester United have had some fun at the expense of Xavi after the Barcelona boss referred to Bruno Fernandes as "the Portuguese guy" prior to Thursday night's crunch Europa League tie.

United locked horns with the Spanish giants at Old Trafford with a place in the last 16 of the tournament up for grabs.

Ferdinand singles duo out

Rio Ferdinand has hailed Antony and Fred after the Brazilian duo both scored for Manchester United in Thursday night's enthralling 4-3 aggregate win over Barcelona.

United met the Spanish giants at Old Trafford for a place in the last 16 of the Europa League, with the tie poised finely after last week's 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp.

Robert Lewandowski had nudged Barcelona into the lead with a first-half penalty, but United fought back and restored parity just minutes after the interval through Fred.
