Frustrated PGA Tour star hits out at "waste of time" LIV Golf battle

Keven Kisner has hit out at those in charge of the PGA Tour, after labelling its lengthy dispute with LIV Golf a "total waste of time."

The PGA Tour had found itself in a lengthy battle with LIV Golf, as the American-based circuit looked to diffuse the growth of its newfound rival. Their feud dated back prior to LIV's formation last summer, with the Tour keen to play down Greg Norman's initial idea of a Saudi Golf League.

Despite the ugly dispute, the two appeared to have settled their differences in June after the PGA Tour announced it had reached a framework agreement with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF).

On the back of the announcement, the Tour faced a whole host of criticism, mostly due to their repeated efforts to thwart the threat of the LIV setup and its Saudi backers. The latest player to have his say is Kisner. The American had spent time on the Tour's Policy Board as a player director at the height of the dispute.

Now, however, Kisner believes his and the Tour's efforts against the LIV setup were in vain. "Super weird. Working so hard on that board. Spending so much time and effort on it over the last three years and then being off of it," he told the Fore Play Podcast.

"And then, you know, kind of getting thrown in your face, like: ‘Hey, you fought three years to fight the PIF and LIV Golf, now we're going to be buddies.’ Total waste of time for three years basically.” The majority of the blame has fallen at the feet of commissioner Jay Monahan, who confirmed the agreement with PIF earlier this summer.

Much has been said about the commissioner's future in charge, and Kisner believes the u-turn has done Monahan's reputation no favours. "It’s a players’ tour but you hire management that you have the sole purpose of being able to fire and hire to represent you, right?" he added.

“Like, we can fire Jay Monahan if we want to. It’s not that difficult. Not that I’m calling for Jay’s head but I don’t think the public perception, no matter how this ends, is ever going to make Jay Monahan look like a genius again.”
