BBC One Show host says it's 'not fair' as co-star brings personal item on set

BBC One Show's host Jermaine Jenas admitted it wasn't "fair" that new presenter Roman Kemp had a personal item on set.

The presenters kicked off Tuesday night's show with a clash between the two stars. Radio presenter Roman was announced as a regular host on the evening programme last week after making guest appearances. However, upon returning to screens to discuss the latest topics of the day, the conversation turned towards Roman's mug.

The Capital FM host had an Arsenal mug proudly on display on The One Show's coffee table. Co-host Jermaine wasn't best pleased as he confronted Roman. He said: "Now Roman, I've got to say. Do not think I've not noticed the mug that's on the table right there. I see when you was announced to be coming onto the show full-time, but it's not fair you've only got an Arsenal mug there."

"What do you mean?" Roman asked. Jermaine continued: "So I thought I'd get my own mug out," and turned around to grab a huge Tottenham Hotspur mug from behind the sofa. He asked Roman: "How do you like that?" before cheekily adding "Bigger the better." Roman has taken over Ronan Keating's spot as one of Alex Jones' official co-hosts.

Former I'm A Celebrity contestant Roman said of his new role: "I’m very excited to become a permanent presenter on The One Show, I have had so much fun filming with the team already over the past year on the sofa. It’s a dream come true to be on prime-time BBC One, bringing the best topical news and entertainment to the nation."

Fan-favourite Lauren Laverne was also announced as a permanent host on the popular BBC programme. The One Show made a comeback this week after three weeks off air. Its usual 7pm slot was filled with episodes of Rip Off Britain, which sees Angela Rippon, Julia Somerville and Gloria Hunniford investigate money issues and help people hit by scams at home and abroad. Alex signed off from The One Show on 4 August, as she announced it would be taking an extended break.

“Thank you very much to all of our guests tonight, we are on a three-week break now, aren't we, on holiday, so we'll see you back here on Tuesday, August 29,” she explained as she hosted the show alongside Roman Kemp. “But in the meantime, look out for Roman here, on a brand new quiz show called The Finish Line, coming soon to BBC. Have a lovely summer, bye,” Alex added, referencing the DJ and TV star’s game show debut alongside BBC icon Sarah Greene. The Finish Line sees five contestants battle against each other for the chance to win a cash prize. Roman, who is the son of Spandau Ballet legend Martin Kemp, said co-hosting the show was “a massive moment in my career.”
