Manchester United have been handed a huge boost with regards to the recovery of £72million man Rasmsus Hojlund after he was named in the Denmark squad for upcoming internationals.

Hojlund touched down in the red half of Manchester from Atalanta earlier this summer but is yet to feature for Erik ten Hag's side after sustaining a stress fracture in his back during preseason training with his former club. United have hardly set the world alight in an attacking sense so far this season and fans are counting down the days until they can see their new striker in action.

United have three league games under their belt already, with a win over Wolves and a victory against Nottingham Forest either side of a disappointing 2-0 defeat by Tottenham. Up next is the tricky test of a trip to title challengers Arsenal at the Emirates, where Hojlund could make his first outing in United colours.

Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand has revealed he has held discussions with United over Hojlund's involvement ahead of the international break. While he acknowledges his precarious fitness situation, the national team boss has made it clear he wants to get some minutes into the 20-year-old's legs.

"I have some clear agreements with the club. He [Hojlund] should preferably get some minutes so that we can see that he’s there," Hjulmand said following the announcement of the squad on Tuesday. "He lacks game time, that’s clear, but he’s going to play a role [for Denmark], so we’ll have to see what he can do."

Hojlund wasn't the only United player to be named in the Denmark squad, with Christian Eriksen also called up. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is also in the team amid new reports linking the midfielder with a move to Old Trafford.

Eriksen recently spoke glowingly of his new United team-mate, telling the club's website: “He’s a guy who holds his ground. He doesn’t back down from anything.

"He’s really a front-foot guy, who is aggressive and really attack-minded. But, at the same time, a nice guy outside of football." The former Tottenham and Brentford man also discussed the impact Hojlund's first game at United will have in their home country.

“I know it’s been a massive, massive thing and still is," Eriksen added. "Obviously, it’s going to explode even more when he is going to have his debut. I’m happy there’s another Dane at United who can show off the Danish flag."
