'Utterly disgusted' dad furious as children forced to sleep on airport floor

A furious dad of five has slammed a travel firm after travel issues meant his children were forced to sleep on the floor of an airport.

Ryan Sinclare, his wife Robyn, her mum Hayley Judson and their children Charlie, Mia, Maisy, Albie and Penelope had spent a week in Majorca but faced problems getting home to Manchester. A major storm hit the island, sending the airport into total disarray as hundreds of passengers waited for travel updates.

Their 10pm flight was delayed and eventually cancelled, leading to the family being told to go back through passport control, collect their bags and report to Jet2 arrivals where accommodation would be sorted out for them. However, they say there was no accommodation available and they either had to pay for their own hotel or sleep in the airport.

Mr Sinclare, 33, told Manchester Evening News : “I am utterly disgusted with the way we have been treated by Jet2, a company which prides itself on being a package holiday you can trust. We’re almost 24 hours in and we still have no indication as to when we are actually going to be flying home.

“We were given zero updates from the staff in arrivals despite us asking multiple times. We were only provided with food vouchers 17 hours after we had arrived. Our children are exhausted, as are we.

“We have received contradicting information every time we have spoken with somebody new, and we’ve been very disappointed to see that most flights that were scheduled for today have still gone ahead as usual.

“Meanwhile we are still sat here none the wiser as to when we can get home. It’s a bitter end to a wonderful holiday and we’re feeling very stressed.”

The storms on the island previously caused a packed P&O cruise ship carrying 5,000 passengers to snap its moorings and crash into a freight vessel. People on board Britannia described "being pushed ashore by tugs whilst confined to our cabins" after the terrifying incident. Another guest on the 5,000 capacity ship said it was 'panic stations' when the horn blew on board the boat after a storm 'suddenly hit' off the coast of Palma in Mallorca.

A spokesperson for Jet2 said: "The severe weather conditions that affected Palma Airport (Majorca) yesterday have impacted all airlines using the airport. As a result, a number of our flights unfortunately had to night stop at Palma Airport, and despite our best efforts we were unable to secure hotel accommodation for everyone.

“Our teams are working incredibly hard to look after everyone. However, we would of course like to apologise to everyone who has been affected."
