Terrifying footage of the Mallorca storm that caused a P&O cruise ship crash shows a tourist running for cover as deck chairs hurtle past at a resort.

Last night, a huge storm struck the Balearics and caused massive damage, including causing a crash between a P&O cruise ship and a freight vessel. It also wrecked part of a resort on the island of Mallorca and has left holidaymakers, who escaped for a bit of sun, trapped inside for their own safety. Whilst many may have headed off for a dream getaway, they've since seen it turn into a nightmare after the storm struck. New footage of the storm shows the horrifying reality on the Spanish island.

It isn’t clear on which part of the island the video was filmed, but a woman can be seen racing for cover as chairs fly past. Beyond her, other bits of furniture lay scattered on the ground, or are swept away in the wind. Boats docked in the water rock back and forth and a second clip shows the mooring of a huge cruise ship actually snap and break in the conditions.

Other horrifying video shows a covering of some sort flying through the air and smashing into the side of a hotel, where it brakes. Meanwhile, beachgoers were forced to flee as deckchairs and parasols were blown away around them. One woman can be seen running with an inflatable flamingo ring around her waist as she runs.

Local reports said a pregnant woman had to be rushed to hospital after being hit by a sign, and in a number of areas, trees have been uprooted, blocking roads and causing further chaos across the island. Andratx, on the island, is one of the worst affected areas and officials there dealt with over 80 flood incidents in just one hour.

One passenger shared footage of their flight into Majorca, where their plane was rattling violently as it was battered by the storm, leaving others on board screaming in terror. Estela Orts, took to Instagram to say: “The flight had been delayed due to the storm in Palma de Mallorca, we waited on the plane until they received the ‘ok’. The take-off was strange for me, at the beginning of the flight we had a bit of turbulence but it was normal. (I had already written to my family (who were a bit scared), because they had seen the storm on the news).

“UNTIL IT HAPPENED. The plane started to fall. People and children screaming, being sick, I couldn't help crying. I don't know how long that moment lasted but it felt eternal. Until the pilot managed to stabilise the plane, it was like a roller coaster. Nobody said anything over the loudspeaker about what was happening, even when it was stabilised.

“Some time passed and the pilot explained why he didn't speak and it seems logical to me why: 130km/h CROSS WINDS. We tried to land and we couldn't, 2 laps around the island and it was impossible to descend, suddenly we stopped seeing the island and started to climb. The pilot decided that the best option was to return to Alicante. 10:30am we took off 12:36pm we landed (Normally the flight lasts 40 min)"

Meanwhile, one newly engaged British couple had to run for their lives with their two kids and baby in a pram from the dangerous winds and storm. Jessica Gorman and fiancé Scott had only gotten engaged the day before the storm ravaged the island and turned their holiday in mayhem, The Mail reported.

Jessica, from Reigate, Surrey, told the outlet: "We actually had to run as quick as we could for half an hour to our hotel. The roads were empty, there were no cars driving, it was like a ghost town. The kids were screaming and we were worried about the baby obviously being so young. It was so windy, I felt like the the pram was moving side to side ... it was horrendous."
