Footage capture the moment four audience members were removed from a theatre following a "disturbance" during Grease the Musical.

The dispute in the balcony interrupted the show at Dominion Theatre in London's West End on Saturday night and police had to be called to aid security.

People could be heard clapping and repeatedly shouting "out" in footage shared online. One officer is seen stooping down to speak to a man and a woman in the audience, while another officer then appears to gesture to another couple to leave. Around eight Metropolitan Police officers are seen in the clip altogether.

Applause and cheering then erupts in the theatre as the two couples stand and start to walk out of the auditorium, where balcony seats cost between £59.50 and £150. Scotland Yard confirmed it was called at 8.40pm, around 70 minutes into the performance.

A spokesperson for Met Police said: "Shortly before 8.40pm on Saturday, August 26, police received reports of two men and two women causing a disturbance at a theatre in Tottenham Court Road, W1. Officers attended and the group were escorted from the premises. No arrests. No injuries reported."

Two police cars and a police van were pictured outside the theatre with their blue lights flashing. Members of the cast were also snapped exiting the stage door as the musical concluded.

It is unclear what exactly happened during the ruckus. One theatre-goer, though, commented beneath the clip on Facebook that they "were apparently being rude or abusive and refusing to leave".

Asked by one person what had happened, he replied: "No one seems to know but bar staff claimed they'd been rude or abusive and just wouldn't leave and kept on arguing, guessing too much drink."

Loud jeering can be heard in the video as the quartet are escorted out of the premises with police officers and staff following behind. Mirror has approached Dominion Theatre for comment.

It mirrors an incident in April at Palace Theatre in Manchester, where two women were dragged out of the auditorium after singing and screaming through The Bodyguard.

Police were called to that episode as audience members began singing over the top of performers, despite signs around the auditorium asking the public not to sing. Like in London last night, The Bodyguard musical was briefly paused to evict the group of people who would not stop singing.
