Police escort puzzled pig home after resident worried he 'looked cold'

A police department has proven no emergency is too big or too small for them to deal with after escorting a 'cold looking' pig home. The team at Anchorage Police Department, in Fairview, Alaska, received a call from a concerned resident who spotted a lone pig wandering around their neighbourhood one evening.

Not wanting to leave the pig out in the cold all night, officers rushed to the scene to collect the puzzled pig. An officer said on Facebook: "We got a call from a concerned citizen regarding a pig in Fairview, standing on the side of the road, who 'looked cold.' We're all familiar with refrigerated bacon, we just never thought we’d respond to a call for service related to that topic.

"As it turns out, the portly dude was quite friendly. You’ll be happy to know he has been reunited with his family and all is well.

"Would you like to know the best part? His name... Ladies and gentlemen, we give you Elvis Pigsley."

However, this isn't the first time Anchorage Police Department has been called out to an animal-related "emergency", as last year they had to persuade a turkey to leave a shop and continue with his day elsewhere.

"Just shy of a year ago we responded to a call about a turkey trying to enter a convenience store," the officer added.

"We showed up and found an actual gobble gobble attempting to finagle his way into the mart at a local gas station.

"After that adventure, you'd think not much would surprise us."

After sharing a snap of Elvis Pigsley in the back of their police car on Facebook, they were inundated with messages from residents thanking them for "saving" the cheeky hog.

One user said: "You’ll had to take him home... It was only a matter of time before he squealed on you."

Another user added: "Glad the cold porker made it home and the officer should get a special recommendation in his file!"

A third user said: "That's hysterical! So glad you all have moments like this to lighten your day!"

One more added: "Oh my goodness. Elvis Pigsley. I love him! Thanks for helping the portly dude make his way home."
