SILVER SWORD (5.15) was another runner who did not enjoy the soft ground at Goodwood.

He ran pretty well in the circumstances and he’s better judged on his smooth victory over 1m at Pontefract.

His Epsom second to Torito, who went on to finish fourth in the Group 3 Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot, on Derby day was another excellent performance.

Back on quicker ground, he should show his true colours. Have 1pt each-way at 9-1. Most bookies are paying out on four places.

Novice races aren’t usually my bag but the Convivial – Britian’s most valuable maiden – is a little different.

In-form Ed Dunlop’s SUPERPOSITION (4.45) ran really well when fifth in a newcomers maiden at Newmarket last month.
