BRACE yourself for the Twilight hour.

TWILIGHT CALLS (3.35) has always threatened to land a top sprint but he hasn’t quite managed to put it all together when it matters.

His best run came when chasing hope Aussie superstar Nature Strip in last year’s King’s Stand Stakes.

He might have given Bradsell and Highfield Princess something to think about in this season’s top 5f Royal Ascot sprint had he got anything like a clear run.

Considering that pair head the betting for the Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes, then Henry Candy’s speedster must have a decent chance in this superb Group 1 contest.

They’re likely to go a red-hot pace and that will suit Frankie Dettori’s mount. Have 1 pt each-way at 18-1. Sky Bet is paying out on five places.

The York ground is going to be way quicker than it was at Glorious Goodwood when MARHABA THE CHAMP (1.50) struggled in the conditions.

He had earlier just got up on the line over 1m2f at this track in May on his first start of the season.

Epsom’s twists and turns were not for him on Oaks day on his next start and he looks sure to appreciate the step up to 1m4f for the first time.

His trainer Kevin Ryan has saddled the runner-up in this race in each of the past two years and it never harms to have the help of Ryan Moore on top. Have 1pt each-way at 14-1. A few firms are going five places.

SILVER SWORD (5.15) was another runner who did not enjoy the soft ground at Goodwood.

He ran pretty well in the circumstances and he’s better judged on his smooth victory over 1m at Pontefract.

His Epsom second to Torito, who went on to finish fourth in the Group 3 Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot, on Derby day was another excellent performance.

Back on quicker ground, he should show his true colours. Have 1pt each-way at 9-1. Most bookies are paying out on four places.

Novice races aren’t usually my bag but the Convivial – Britian’s most valuable maiden – is a little different.

In-form Ed Dunlop’s SUPERPOSITION (4.45) ran really well when fifth in a newcomers maiden at Newmarket last month.

There’s every reason to think that’s hot form and he would have finished closer had he had a clear run in the final two furlongs. Have 1pt each-way at 11-1.
