An embroidery needle was found in a five-month-old baby’s heart after she started convulsing at home.

The tot’s concerned parents rushed her to the hospital after she started shaking uncontrollably and losing consciousness. At the hospital, the baby continued to convulse and pass out, and doctors immediately carried out a series of checks. After taking an X-ray, medics were stunned to see a 4cm embroidery needle piercing the tot’s heart.

The needle penetrated through the baby’s stomach wall and pierced the left ventricle of her heart, according to the Xi'an Children's Hospital in Shaanxi Province, China. Doctors rushed the baby into the operating theatre and successfully removed the needle. The young girl was then taken to the hospital’s ICU for monitoring and follow-up treatment.

The baby’s parents said they had no idea how the needle ended up in their daughter’s body. It is believed the needle was accidentally swallowed by the tot and ended up piercing the left ventricle through the stomach wall. Following the successful operation, it’s unclear how long the baby had to remain in hospital before returning home.

In September last year, Chinese doctors were stunned after making a gruesome discovery during an X-ray of a little boy's penis. They examined the 11-year-old patient who was struggling to urinate and were amazed when they found an acupuncture needle had been pushed up his bladder tube.

At first they were unable to explain the boy's pain and he was despatched for an X-ray at the Jiangxi Children's Hospital in Jiangxi Province, central China. But they were shocked to discover the boy had an 8cm needle inserted in his penis.

Doctors questioned the boy and he admitted inserting the needle into his urethra himself 'because he was bored' and wanted to discover if it was possible.

Chief Physician Rao Pinde explained he had done this around 12 hours before he was unable to urinate.

When his penis became painful, he finally asked for help but did not admit what he had done.

He was taken to surgery and medics managed to remove the needle. It was also carried out using an endoscope, which allowed surgeons to find the needle.
