Spanish bullfighter gored in the bum in front of screaming spectators

A Spanish bullfighter has been hospitalised after being horrifically gored in the backside by the animal he was challenging before being thrust into the air like a ragdoll.

Professional matador Alejandro Conquero, 28, was said to be in a serious condition in the Rey Juan Carlos de Mostoles hospital after the bull left him with a terrible litany of injuries after the event in the Madrid area town of Cenicientos yesterday. Doctors said the damage was such that the bullfighter was likely to suffer long-term problems.

In terrifying footage of the incident, Conquero - who is draped in the traditional matador get up - taunts a rampaging white bull with a pink and yellow cape as the beast edges closer. As he gets ever nearer to the bull's sharp horns, suddenly the behemoth strikes, tossing the 28-year-old into the air. When he falls back to the ground on his stomach, the animal charges a second time, ploughing its horn into his rectum. Alejandro is flung into the air a second time with the bull's horn still inside him as he plummets to the ground again.

A video of the incident, in which stunned spectators can be heard wailing in terror, went viral on Twitter and has been viewed hundreds of times. According to Spanish outlet, Andalucia Informacion, the incident happened during the third fight of the annual Prieto de la Cal. Conquero, from Andalucia, is the descendant of a line of bullfighters, including his father, the famed matador Jose Conquero, who went by his nickname The Hurricane of Huelva.

Monday's incident saw Conquero suffer a horrific tally of internal injuries. The bullfighter sustained a "goring in the posterior perianal region which dissects the rectum through the coccyx and could affect the external sphincter of the anus", an on-site doctor said.

Last month, a reveller at a Spanish festival managed to cheat death after being mauled by a bull following three fatal gorings in a 24-hour period. The bare-chested man was pinned down for nearly half a minute by the angry animal as its horns came dangerously close to his head and stomach. Other revellers reacted by running round the bull and waving their arms to try to get its attention and persuade it to charge at them instead. The animal’s two-legged prisoner eventually managed to free himself from its clutches and jumped into the sea after running to safety looking shaken but otherwise unharmed.

Local reports said he had ended up being taken to hospital for an operation after it emerged he had suffered a gore injury to his groin as well as scratches and bruising, but his life is not thought to be in danger. The shock incident happened on July 21 during an annual event in the Costa Blanca resort of Moraira near Benidorm known as the Bous a la Mar, which literally means Bulls in the Sea.
