The Beckhams are throwing a big party to celebrate son Romeo’s 21st – but have already had rainwater poured on their ambitions for the do.

David and Victoria sent out some save-the-date invitiations last month after forking out thousands of pounds to book posh Soho Farmhouse, in the Cotswolds. But the ink on the invites – which came complete with a baby-faced snap of second son Romeo – had barely dried when the couple sent out another message asking guests to hold fire, amid fears bad weather would rain on Romeo’s parade.

Messages posted this week warned that the Beckhams were considering changing the location to a London venue instead, as “unfavourable weather conditions” threatened to turn the party into a washout. One source says: “The Beckham family love Soho Farmhouse.

“That was their first choice for Romeo’s party, which is going to be a really huge affair. But unfortunately, after they sent out all their save-the-dates, someone pointed out that the weather in the Cotswolds on their chosen date looked pretty horrendous. They quickly backtracked and asked all of their guests to not book accommodation in the area until they had reassessed their options.”

Romeo – the second of the couple’s four children – will turn 21 on September 1. The source adds: “They’re now considering the best course of action. Much as they love the countryside, they know it will be no fun in the lashing rain. So now they have to decide rather quickly if they want to take that risk on the day.”

While the party venue is proving to be a headache for the Beckhams, everything else is coming along swimmingly. David and Victoria’s eldest son Brooklyn and his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham are planning to fly to the UK for the celebrations – putting paid to rumours of a simmering rift between Victoria and her daughter-in-law.

They have put on a very public united front in recent months. In June, American heiress Nicola posed for some cosy snaps with Victoria on a family break, with the fashion designer captioning the shots: “Love you all so much.” Hopefully, then, there’ll be no awkward silences between the two at Romeo’s bash. We don’t know about you, but we’re finding it reassuring to know that, no matter how much money and fame you have, you can still get tripped up by the weather.
