Cain revenge and secret son twist

Nate debuted on the soap in 2019 as part of a major twist. His identity was hidden for months, before he was confirmed to be the secret son of Cain Dingle.

Believing his dad had abandoned him as a baby, Nate sought revenge by trying to ruin Cain's life. From starting an affair with his wife Moira, to trying to get his young sons taken away from him, the truth soon came out in dramatic fashion.

Cain soon revealed he did not know about his existence, leading to his son feeling guilty. It took some time but eventually the father and son were able to move past everything.

Devastating backstory

Nate learned the truth about his backstory once Cain had his say. His mother Cara had lied about Cain not wanting to know. What actually happened was that Cara was told to flee by Cain's mother Faith Dingle, when Faith learned Cara was pregnant.

Cara was just a teenager when she fell pregnant with Cain's child. Cain didn't know why Cara left one day and never returned, unaware about the baby. But Faith did know the truth, and warned Cara off for her and her baby's safety, claiming her racist husband Shadrach and his family might bring her harm if they knew the truth.

Shadrach had threatened Cara and her mother, so Faith feared what he would do if he knew about the baby. Cara did try to get in contact with Cain after Nate was born, but Faith intercepted the messages.

Sad split

Nate might be happily married to partner Tracy now, but it wasn't always smooth sailing for the pair. Tracy fell pregnant just months into them dating, and they welcomed a child in 2021. Tracy began battling with postnatal depression, and Nate ended up drowning his sorrows.

One night he cheated on Tracy, and when the truth came out she dumped him before leaving the village for a new job, taking their daughter with her. Tracy briefly returned last year, and more recently she moved back to the village. The pair have since married and moved back in together.

That said, last year Nate was dating Naomi Walters, and ended up cheating on her with Tracy. He's also had romances with Chloe Harris and others in the village.

Village trouble

It wasn't long after Nate's arrival that his dad tried to force him out of the village after what he did. The Dingles sided with Nate though, leaving Cain furious. Further down the line Nate proved his loyalty, after helping aunt Belle Dingle in her bid to expose Jamie Tate for almost killing Moira.

Jamie turned on them though and tried to have them both arrested, knowing Belle would struggle with her mental health. As Belle spiralled, Nate took the blame after Jamie set her up for the hit-and-run he was guilty of. Nate was almost sent to prison but managed to get off.

Other dramas in the village for the character include him being injured in the recent storm, and him struggling to find work after Moira's farm faced financial ruin. Now it seems he could be facing more trouble ahead.
