DJ Casper, who topped charts with his iconic party hit Cha Cha Slide, has died at aged 58. The American songwriter, whose real name is Willie Perry, died on Monday, after being diagnosed with two forms of cancer in 2016.

During his gruelling health battle, he lost 180lb but kept a positive mindset. In an interview three months before his death, he said: "If you know me, you know I'm not gonna stop. I'm going to continue to go. I will continue to go until I can't go."

He also encouraged people to continue doing the Cha Cha Slide to keep a smile on their faces through challenging moments in life. Speaking to ABC 7 Chicago about his diagnosis, he said: "They diagnosed me in 2016 with two forms of cancer, which is renal and neuroendocrine, which is kidney and liver. They went in to try to do surgery, and they found out the kidney was connected to the main artery, so they decided not to do it."

His party hit Cha Cha Slide spent five weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart following its release in August 2000. The iconic song, which was originally written as a step aerobics routine, guides listeners through the dance moves, instructing them to slide, hop and stomp throughout the song.

But 23 years on and one instruction in the song is still confusing people, prompting a Reddit user to ask: "In the Cha Cha Slide dance, what is the Charlie Brown move actually supposed to be? After 200 times through this dance, it still eludes me."

In response, one equally flummoxed user said: "Now we're asking the important questions." Another added: "Do the same exact, repeated motion over and over again. So long as it looks weird, it'll work." A third user said: "My kids spin around in a circle while on their tip toes."

According to the official music video to Mr C. The Slide Man - Cha Cha Slide Part 2, Charlie Brown is a hopping move with alternating feet and with arm motion. It is considered to be a version of the running man made popular by MC Hammer, and sees dancers rock forward on one foot while kicking back with the other.

Sharing this on Reddit, one user said: "The mythical Charlie Brown. In my experience, that part simply references a silly dance move that would be most appropriate on one of the Charlie Brown characters.

"There are a few moves called the Charlie Brown, but for the Cha Cha Slide typically what I see is the running man, but with leg braces. Part of the reason that nobody is really sure what to do with this part is because it is a variable, ie: do a silly looking Charlie Brown dance which could be any number of types of move.

"When people try to learn it, they find that many people are doing different things so nobody is quite sure. You might end up with some groups of people doing one thing, some doing another. But finally, we see here in the actual video that the Charlie Brown is something else entirely - something like a forward and backward bounce on one leg each. We can only assume that this is the official stance on the matter."

Thanking him for setting the record straight, one user commented: "You have cleared up a life long mystery for me. You're an American hero." Another user added: "I didn't know I wanted to know this until I realised it was a different move everywhere I've lived at.

"Interestingly, the result is something like the actual Charlie Brown scene in which everyone is doing their own little weird thing for a moment. The truth of this matter may not be for mortals to know, but it's too late now."

Paying tribute to DJ Casper, one user said on Twitter: "Your memory will live on at every family reunion, wedding, and school dance." Another said: "God rest his soul! Thank you for the Cha Cha Slide." Another user tweeted: "DJ Casper brought joy to so many with the "Cha Cha Slide." His legacy will live on through the countless celebrations and events where his music continues to unite people in dance. My condolences to his loved ones."
