Meghan Markle is expected to reveal her husband Prince Harry 's "shortcomings" in a new autobiography giving her side of the couple's extraordinary story.

The Duchess of Sussex is thought to be working on a tell-all book in a similar vein to Prince Harry's popular memoir Spare. The open and honest account of the Duchess' life is expected to include surprising and personal revelations from her five-year marriage.

It's expected Meghan - who shares son Archie, four, and two-year-old daughter Lilibet with Harry - won't hold back on telling her truth. Harry himself hinted in his book and in their Netflix docuseries that he felt guilty about how Meghan was treated while they lived together in the UK and wished he could have done more to help and protect her.

Prince Harry admitted that he felt "angry and ashamed" that things had got so bad that Meghan was having suicidal thoughts. "I was devastated. I knew that she was struggling, we were both struggling, but I never thought that it would get to that stage, and the fact that it got to that stage, I felt angry and ashamed," Harry said in the couple's Netflix docuseries.

Harry said that while he understood Meghan's struggle, he was so preoccupied with his royal duties that he didn't give her the support she needed.

"I didn't deal with it particularly well. I dealt with it as institutional Harry as opposed to husband Harry. And what took over my feelings was my royal role," Harry said. "I'd been trained to worry more about, 'What are people gonna think if we don't go to this event? We're gonna be late.' And looking back on it now, I hate myself for it."

And now a source claims that Meghan wants to put her side across. "Meghan really wants to get her side of the story across after Harry got the space to tell his story so deeply," a source tells Bella magazine.

"There have been times that Harry has been less than perfect in the marriage, which he acknowledges, but no one is perfect."

Last night, Meghan kicked off her 42nd birthday celebrations early with a night out with her gal pals, while her husband was nowhere to be seen.

The Duchess of Sussex headed to the cinema with a group of friends, including her neighbour Portia De Rossi, as they went to see the new Barbie movie. The women watched Margot Robbie's new film at a cinema in Santa Barbara earlier this week.

According to a source, the Duke of Sussex decided to stay at home in the couple's $14.6million (£11.8million) Montecito mansion. After watching the film, the source said Meghan and her friends continued their night out at the San Ysidro Ranch hotel.

Speaking to Page Six, a source said Meghan happily posed for pictures with a hen party at the luxury hotel and wished the bride-to-be "good luck" for her wedding.

Mirror has contacted Meghan's representatives for comment.
