PSG are looking to snap up Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos after missing out on Rasmus Hojlund, who is set to join Manchester United.

The young Dane is poised to complete his switch to the Red Devils which left the Parisians to look elsewhere. They've identified Ramos, who shot to fame at the World Cup last winter when he scored a hat-trick for Portugal against Switzerland on his first start.

Domestically he was prolific for the Lisbon-based outfit, scoring on 27 occasions and attracting the interest of Europe's top sides. Several publications, including RMC Sport, report that personal terms have been agreed ahead of a £68m switch to the Parc des Princes.

PSG are ramping up their recruitment in the final third with Ousmane Dembele poised to make the switch from Barcelona. Randal Kolo Muani, who has become a leading light in Germany with Frankfurt, is also on their radar as they hope to refresh their forward line.

Ramos, who is only 22, is set to be a top performer for the next decade and United themselves were previously interested in the striker. Bruno Fernandes, who has seen the Benfica man close up with his national side, was full of praise for his compatriot and had been extremely keen for United to snap up his compatriot.

"I think Goncalo [Ramos] has all the conditions to play in the Premier League," Fernandes told Portuguese channel Sport TV earlier this summer, as per Record. "He plays with a lot of intensity, he presses very well and is really good inside the penalty area. He is strong. Obviously, he is still very young and will improve a lot."

Instead, the Red Devils are splurging on Hojlund.

Ramos' agent, Jorge Mendes, previously negotiated Cristiano Ronaldo's return to Manchester and his relationship with PSG's Sporting advisor Luís Campos has been key in the deal. The French club's frontline has involved a stellar cast in recent years, but is now in the middle of major change.

Lionel Messi has left for America, PSG want to offload Kylian Mbappe whilst Neymar has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

The Brazilian could well remain in Paris but reinforcements around him are needed with the Parisians targeting several players.

They remain committed to getting Mbappe off their books with the forward looking to run down his deal, which would allow him to leave for nothing next summer.

The club believe he has an agreement to join Real Madrid but are determined to sell him.

"Nobody is bigger than the club, no player, not even me. It’s very clear," said the PSG president.

“By the standards of football, you never see your best player leave for free. It just doesn’t happen.”
