Rasmus Hojlund jets in for Man Utd medical as Leeds eye swoop for defender

Rasmus Hojlund is set to become Manchester United's latest summer signing, joining Andre Onana and Mason Mount at Old Trafford.

Denmark international Hojlund was left on the bench by Atalanta for their last pre-season friendly against Bournemouth, with a Premier League move imminent. His arrival would take United's spending north of £150m this window, still a little lower than the corresponding period in 2022.

United are likely to need to sell as well as buying, and that's where some of our focus lies today. Here are the latest news lines from around Old Trafford ahead of a busy couple of weeks.

Ten Hag's Hojlund U-turn

Man Utd boss was keen on a "no risk" forward at the start at the summer transfer window. Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen were among those linked, only for United to instead push for the relatively untested Rasmus Hojlund.

United are closing in on the Danish star, who will set them back around £72m with add-ons. Hojlund scored nine times in Serie A last season, but Ten Hag clearly sees a lot in him.

The Atalanta starlet jetted in on Tuesday for his medical, with the deal set to be announced in the coming days. With less than a fortnight until the new campaign, the manager appears to have got his man.

Pellistri urged to move

Erik ten Hag has urged Facundo Pellistri to join Twente on loan, according to ESPN in the Netherlands (via the Manchester Evening News). Ten Hag previously served on Twente's coaching staff, back when current United coach Steve McClaren was manager.

Uruguayan youngster Pellistri played for his country before his club, playing multiple times at the last World Cup. He made 10 United appearances last term, nine from the bench as well as a start against Real Betis in the Europa League.

If the 21-year-old does leave, he would be following fellow wide man Anthony Elanga in moving on. However, while Pellistri's switch would likely be a loan, Elanga has completed a permanent move to Nottingham Forest.

Leeds keen on Williams

Leeds United could move for Man Utd full-back Brandon Williams, according to The Independent. The academy talent has been signed by Whites boss Daniel Farke before, with the German taking him to Norwich in a one-year loan deal ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.

Farke is now in the dugout at Elland Road, replacing Sam Allardyce following relegation from the Premier League. Several members of last season's squad have already left on loan, with Williams potentially filling the gap left by Rasmus Kristensen's temporary move to Roma.

The 22-year-old missed the start of last season through injury and only made one appearance for United in the entire campaign. However, he has been part of Erik ten Hag's touring squad in the United States.
