Man Utd player ratings from US tour as Fernandes stars but Maguire struggles
Manchester United flew home from Las Vegas after ending their two-week tour of the US with a 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund at the Allegiant Stadium.
Results may not have been what United wanted, with one win and three defeats, but Erik ten Hag and his squad gained a great deal from playing top-level opposition and training at a high intensity over the course of the fortnight.
After a 2-0 win over Arsenal in New Jersey, a United youth side lost 3-1 to Wrexham in San Diego, with the first-team going down 2-0 to Real Madrid in Houston the following day.
United's final game of the tour was a 3-2 defeat to Borussia Dortmund in an error-strewn display, before the squad flew back to Manchester to continue their pre-season preparation. Here's how United's first-team rated on the US tour.
Goalkeepers
Andre Onana: United's new keeper was restricted to two 45-minute outings after joining midway through the tour, but showed how Ten Hag's side will play a different style with his willingness to play the ball out from the back. Also not afraid to shout at team-mates when they make errors.
Marcel Sabitzer completes Man Utd transfer after last-minute deadline day dashTom Heaton: Strengthened his claim to be Onana's back-up for the season with some solid displays, although a loan move for the 37-year-old remains likely.
Nathan Bishop: Young keeper was involved in an unfortunate collision with Paul Mullin, which left the Wrexham forward with a punctured lung. Handled the situation maturely, by issuing a public apology to Mullin.

Defenders
Diogo Dalot: Scored a sensational goal, a 20-yard curling effort, in United's 3-2 defeat to Dortmund. Strengthened his claim to start the season as first-choice right-back.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka: Solid defensively, he has improved going forward and often played higher up the pitch. Was at fault for a goal against Dortmund with a sloppy pass that was intercepted.
Raphael Varane: Was left out of the final game against Dortmund as a precaution, but performed well prior to that, particularly in his 45-minute outing against Arsenal in the tour opener.
Lisandro Martinez: A huge boost for United to have their warrior back in central defence, after injury ended last season prematurely for him. Has lost none of his belligerence, as he showed in clashes with Bukayo Saka and Jude Bellingham, both of which saw him cautioned.
Harry Maguire : Tour underlined the need for the former skipper to move on and relaunch his career elsewhere. Was not even handed the armband against Dortmund, when his successor Bruno Fernandes did not start against Dortmund. Got an earful from Onana for poor defending against Dortmund.
Victor Lindelof: Will start the season as third-choice centre-back behind Martinez and Varane, with a move unlikely for him if, as expected, United can offload Maguire. A competent understudy.
Jonny Evans: Signed on a short-term deal for the tour, Evans played a part in two tour games and looked rusty, as you would expect after his lengthy injury lay-off last season. Could yet stay on as defensive cover.
Man Utd deadline day live updates as Sabitzer completes loan moveLuke Shaw : Played a significant role in the three first-team matches, but was at fault for Dortmund's winner, allowing goalscorer Youssoufa Moukoko to run from deep and get ahead of him.
Brandon Williams: Another who struggled in United's final tour game, diving into a challenge and missing the ball completely in the build-up to Dortmund's opener. Permanent or loan move likely.
Midfielders
Christian Eriksen: Looked off the pace in his first two tour appearances, against Arsenal and Real Madrid, but looked sharper against Dortmund. Faces a battle to keep his place next season.
Donny van de Beek: Scored against Lyon in the game prior to the US tour, but is still making his way back from injury after missing the second half of last season. Loan or permanent move his next option.
Casemiro: Will take time to build up his fitness and get to his best form for the new season, as the tour showed. Passing accuracy was awry over the whole tour and needs time to be at his sharpest.
Mason Mount : Showed the work ethic off the ball that has impressed Ten Hag so much, pressing opponents and winning back possession, but less effective going forward. United's new signing still has much to prove.
Bruno Fernandes: United's newly-appointed captain scored the tour opener against Arsenal and played with his usual commitment and verve. Created chances whenever he played and led by example on tour, particularly with regard to supporting the younger players.
Scott McTominay: Handed the captain's armband ahead of former skipper Harry Maguire for the final tour game against Dortmund. Played with customary industry, but could still be sold if United's £40m valuation is met.
Kobbie Mainoo: Started the first three US tour games, underlining Ten Hag's belief in him, until injury early on against Real Madrid ended his participation and he was forced to fly home. The 18-year-old was impressive up until then and Ten Hag will hope he is not sidelined for long.
Attackers
Antony: Scored in United's defeat to Dortmund, but was generally peripheral when he played. Remains over-reliant on his left and somehow missed a sitter with his right against Dortmund.
Jadon Sancho: Looked sharp in United's opener against Arsenal, in which he scored with a difficult finish. Solid thereafter, although his final ball still needs improving. Seems to be over the mental and physical problems that caused him to miss three months of last season.
Marcus Rashford : Big season ahead for the striker after his 30-goal haul last term. Touch was way off against Dortmund, losing the ball frequently. Pressure on him to match last season's heroics, with Ten Hag having already warned him about retaining his focus.
Alejandro Garnacho: Took on defenders one-on-one with his usual swagger and confidence, but did not have the desired impact. Left out of the final game against Dortmund as a precaution.
Facundo Pellistri: Provided an attacking threat, with his direct running and pace, whenever he played, but a loan move before the window closes still seems his likeliest option.
