Molly-Mae Hague slammed by fans as she celebrates 'flying home as a fiancée'
Molly-Mae Hague has been heavily criticized online after sharing a photo of her boarding a private jet.
In the picture, the Love Island runner-up can be seen cradling the couple's baby daughter, Bambi, as she stares out the tiny window of the chartered plane. She captioned the glamorous image, "Flying home a fiancé."
The reality TV star and boyfriend Tommy Fury announced their engagement over the weekend following the boxer's proposal in Ibiza.
The update has been met by a storm of backlash, however, with many of the British influencer's followers objecting to her form of transport to return from the Mediterranean island.
"Molly the world is literally burning, please no more private jets," one unimpressed fan wrote. Another pleaded: "I love u but its sad how our planet is dying and rich ppls are flying to be somewhere for 2 f**king days. While others are paying their asses of for gass and food cose our planet is dying."
Love Island's Haris spills on unaired row between Zara and Tanyel"Fabulous. Carbon footprint," another Instagram user sarcastically quipped, with one fuming fan adding: "You mean - telling your followers you flew home on a private Jet!!!
Molly-Mae also took a private jet to fly from England to Ireland back in 2019, despite the operation of dozens of commercial flights to the country every day. The decision was slammed by many as environmentally irresponsible, with some estimates saying that private jets produce 10 times the amount of carbon per passenger.
Others defended the 24-year-old, however, calling those who criticize her decision 'bitter'. The discourse became so divisive that Molly-Mae, who recently stepped down as the Creative Director of Pretty Little Thing, ended up deactivating comments.
As well as chartering a private plane for the romantic trip, Tommy reportedly spent about £600,000 on his future wife's sparkling engagement ring. He also flaunted his VIP flight on his Instagram Stories, posting a photo of his feet kicked up on the tanned leather seats. A hamper of treats, presumably to celebrate the happy news, can also be seen in the shot.
Molly-Mae later revealed that Tommy, whom she met on Love Island in 2019, went to great measures to keep the proposal a surprise. The pro boxer led her to believe that she was visiting Ibiza on a brand trip, and even went as far as creating fake emails so she wouldn't suspect otherwise. At the time of the proposal, which took place beside a cliff, Molly thought that she was simply on her way to a lavish event. Tommy then got down on one knee and, with Irish singer-songwriter RuthAnne performing The Vow beside them, he asked her to marry him.
"A pinch me moment! Congratulations @tommyfury @mollymae on your engagement & I can’t believe I got to be there to sing your song #thevow live for this most amazing proposal (good planning Tommy)," RuthAnne later wrote on Instagram.
