The Big Brother reboot could see the return of some of the most iconic contestants from the original show, according to an inside source.

ITV2 confirmed during the Love Island finale last year that it would be bringing back the reality TV series in 2023, much to the delight of its longtime fanbase.

The refreshed version of the British game show, which previously ran on Channel 4 from 2000 to 2010 before its cancellation on Channel 5 in 2018, will be hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best and is expected to hit screens in October.

A TV insider has now revealed that show bosses are "keen to recapture the magic that made the programme such a hit" when it first premiered and hope that including familiar faces in its line-up could achieve this.

"It won’t be a reboot full of old faces, it’s likely to be a smattering rather than a deluge of BB veterans," they told The Sun. "They know that they need the random mix of people that featured in the original C4 version, so this is a way to help achieve that."

It remains unknown which OG Big Brother stars could be making a comeback, but some names that have already been speculated as potential candidates include Chanelle Hayes, Makosi Musambasi, Nadia Almada and Nick Bateman.

According to the insider, producers wish to avoid casting folks that resemble the stars of Love Island and are instead looking for "quirky" and "controversial" individuals that will "stirs things up."

"The names in the frame [Hayes, Almada and Bateman] have proven track records in that respect," they added.

Chanelle Hayes was just 19 when she appeared on Big Brother in 2007, and despite quitting halfway through the series, went on to become one of the show's most famous contestants. Since quitting showbiz, she's established an impressive career as a nurse and welcomed two sons. She also started a cake business in 2012 called Love Cake Love Me, and as of 2014, appears to have stepped back from professional baking.

Nick 'Nasty' Bateman, now 55, gained his notorious reputation after causing major drama in the Big Brother house during Series 1. On Day 34 of his stay, he was asked to leave the show by producers after it emerged that he had tried to manipulate fellow contestants in the voting process. He returned for Ultimate Big Brother in 2010 and ended up finishing in fifth place, before landing a gig as a radio show presenter in Kent. As of 2013, he lives in Sydney, Australia, where he now works as a freelance writer.

Makosi Musambasi, 42, entered the spotlight after joining the sixth series of Big Brother in 2005. Hailing from Zimbabwe, she was the first African contestant to appear on the show. She came into the house with a degree in nursing and journalism and would go on to host numerous music and TV shows after her exit. In 2012, she launched her own chat show, Makosi Today, and now works as a certified life coach in Dubai.

Nadia Almada, 46, was crowned the Big Brother champion in 2004 after winning over the nation with her lovable personality. Today, the Portuguese-born reality star works as a stylist and lives in Surrey.
