Indie rockers Courteeners followed in Aitch's footsteps by leaking one of Manchester United's new shirts during a festival performance.

The Mancunian band, fronted by United-supporting singer-songwriter Liam Fray, headlined Tramlines festival in Sheffield on Saturday and he was asked to sport the Red Devils' new away shirt which is officially released on Monday. Countless leaks have already emerged, however, with the dark green look dividing opinion amongst supporters.

One fan who does appear to like United's attire for their away days in the 2023-24 season is Fray, who wore a long-sleeved version on Saturday. The 'Not Nineteen Forever' star posted a snap of him wearing the shirt on stage and in his dressing room, giving supporters a closer look at Adidas' work in detail.

With a dark green base, the shirt is split down front by four thick vertical white columns which themselves each include a thin red stripe. Eagle-eyes fans will notice that on Fray's long-sleeved iteration, the iconic three Adidas stripes down the sleeve turn to five from the elbow to the wrist.

Erik ten Hag's team could debut their new kit during their upcoming pre-season friendly with Wrexham on Wednesday morning. Sharing the stunt on Instagram, Fray wrote within his caption: "Fantastic night tonight, headlining Tramlines whilst being asked to debut the new United shirt.”

Mancunian rapper Aitch, who now appears to have kickstarted a trend, donned United's new home shirt during his Glastonbury set last month a few days before its official release. Pulling it on midway through his performance, the BRIT Award-winning artist - real life Harrison James Armstrong - gave fans a full-on preview of the classic crimson red jersey.

Like Aitch, Fray is a lifelong United fan and Courteeners tunes are regularly played pre-match and during the half-time break at Old Trafford. 'Not Nineteen Forever' was even used at the club's official song to celebrate their 20th Premier League title win in 2013.

"It was mental, it just fell into our laps," Fray, who used to be a ball boy at Old Trafford, told the Daily Star at the time. "The club officials asked, 'Can we use it?' and we were like, 'Yeah, of course'.

"I wrote that song in my bedroom seven years ago so it has all been very surreal, but nice because it has snowballed and if it gives us a wider audience then great."

The Middleton-born singer and guitarist attended his first United match in October 1993, as Sir Alex Ferguson's side came from behind to beat QPR 2-1 thanks to second-half goals from Eric Cantona and Mark Hughes. "Just to see that many people, and all of them rooting for the same thing," Fray, who's now 38, told Radio X in 2017.

"It was just a mega experience isn't it, your first game? As a kid, it stays with you forever I think."
