Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green has labelled New York Knicks fans as “f****** delusional” during a recent podcast.

The Warriors forward had been the subject of speculation earlier in the summer as his future in San Francisco seemed in doubt. Green had declined to sign his $27.5 million (£21.3 million) one-year player option with the Warriors.

As a result, Green entered free agency and seemed to be looking for a new team. That was until he re-signed with the Warriors after agreeing a four-year deal worth $100 million (£77.5 million), with a player option for the final year.

Green has been with the Warriors since being drafted with the No.35 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. And while he is still a key figure in Steve Kerr’s team, he also has fun running his podcast while not on the court.

His latest episode of ‘The Draymond Green Show’ saw him chatting to Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young. The 24-year-old was the No.5 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, and has gone on to become one of the most talented stars in the league.

Young has established himself as one of the star players in the Eastern Conference, and regularly plays against the Hawks’ conference rivals, the Knicks. During his time in the NBA, Young has found himself become somewhat of a ‘villain’ when going to Madison Square Garden as an opposition player

Green was chatting to Young about the way opposition crowds react to his performances. And the Warriors star went on to make a claim about Knicks fans, before insisting that he is still a fan of the city of New York.

“New York Knicks fans are f****** delusional and miserable,” Green said, with a laugh. ”And I love New York, so don’t ban me from your city,” he then jokes.

Green added: “They’re a hard fan base. Trae, you go into the Garden, hitting the shots, bowing, you are very much a showman, but yet that’s been flipped into being a villain.

“I’ll be the first to say it: being a villain, it’s no fun.”

Young then went on to open up about how being seen as a “villain” by opposition fans makes him perform. And the Hawks guard admits that it’s not something that he enjoys.

“It ain’t really fun being a villain, I really just feed off of the crowd,” said Young. “I really don’t like being that way, but it’s been that way since I was in high school and averaging 40 points [per game[ in my senior year.

“But I was going to other arenas and they (the crowd) were chanting “overrated”, it’s just what it is. But I’m not that type of person, I’d much rather just go out there, put on a show, have fun, smile and get the win.”
