Cillian Murphy's jaw-dropping Oppenheimer transformation has been given away by Emily Blunt after the Peaky Blinders star vowed never to share it.

The Irish actor, 47, plays physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's film, which tells the story of the physicist's role in the development of the atomic bomb during World War II.

Cillian is unrecognisable in the thriller, shedding an inordinate amount of weight, however he refuses to say how many kilograms he lost, or what food the nutritionist told him to cut out.

When asked if he had signed a Non Disclosure Agreement banning him from talking about his transformation, he insisited he hadn't.

But the star did say: “I don’t want it to be, ‘Cillian lost x weight for the part’", reports The Guardian.

In a separate interview, his on-screen wife, played by Emily, 40, revealed details about the actor's transformation, saying Cillian became "so emaciated" as he invested himself in the physical transformation for the film.

She told Extra: "He had such a monumental undertaking. And he could only eat, like, an almond every day. He was so emaciated."

Despite not wishing to say how much weight he lost for the role, Cillian was determined to nail the part - whatever the cost, telling The Guardian he tested himself to see how little he could eat, revealing: “You become competitive with yourself a little bit which is not healthy. I don’t advise it."

Cillian's portrayal of Oppenheimer is said to be astonishing and well worth the early Oscar buzz. The actor has come a long way from his days as Tommy Shelby in BBC's Peaky Blinders with director Nolan telling Wired magazine some of those who’d seen his performance in the thriller were left “absolutely devastated … they can’t speak”.

Despite being tipped for Oscar glory, Cillian previously expressed near embarrassment over the fact he can command millions of pounds for roles after building one of the most successful film and TV careers in Hollywood.

The actor, who hails from Cork in Ireland, has appeared in iconic films including 28 Days Later, Batman Begins and Dunkirk, but says he's painfully aware of the disparity between his salary and that of healthcare professionals.

The star has been married to artist Yvonne McGuinness since 2004 and together they have two sons; 17-year-old Malachy and 16-year-old Aran.

Cillian keeps his personal life out of the limelight - and even shuns technology, explaining he has no phone or internet connection.

Oppenheimer producer Emma Thomas, who is director Christopher Nolan’s wife, explained" “He’s the most analogue individual you could possibly encounter” - revealing she called him at his home one afternoon to tell him he had bagged the title role in the film.
