McFly certainly surprised music lovers in Pizza Express on Friday, with a secret gig seeing them belt out thier classic hits to some lucky fans after an unexpected appearance.

The group, Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Harry Judd and Dougie Poynter, made an unannounced appearance at the Dean Street chain of the famous restaurant for an epic performance.

From Five Colours In Her Hair and Star Girl to Obviously, the boys belted out some of their classic hits leaving their audience thrilled. Long-time fans were pretty excited to hear some of their older tracks, including Surfer Babe, Too Close For Comfort and Broccoli.

The group performed at the iconic venue, of which musical legends including Amy Winehouse and Van Morrison have performed, as part of the chain's new mission to fill the UK streets with music this summer.

With a series of al fresco performances nationwide, Pizza Express have launched their new campaign Summer Sessions - which kicked off with McFly's secret set.

Pizza Express said of the event: "Celebrating the winning combination of great food and great music, Summer Sessions will also see all performers taking part raising money for music therapy charity, Nordoff & Robbins.

"The campaign is a continuation of Pizza Express’ longstanding heritage with live music, by bringing it into the heart of their restaurants for diners to enjoy."

The campaign sets out to celebrate Britain's best musical talent, encouraging more live music alongside the tasty treats the restaurant has to offer.

Over the next six weeks across the summer, a Pizza Express location each week will host an array of al fresco performances. McFly were up first, pulling off a number of acoustic tracks of some of their most famous and much-loved hits, and it certainly pleased the crowd.

There was also a chance to listen to their latest single Honey I'm Home, from their seventh studio album, Power to Play. The boys performed a special stripped back edition of the song too, giving customers a one-off experience.

Band member Tom said of the collaboration: "We get a real buzz from entertaining a crowd so we’re excited to partner with PizzaExpress on our shared passion for live music. PizzaExpress has a long history of championing great acts and Live Summer Sessions is a brilliant way of giving performers the chance to showcase their talent with live audiences. It was really special to be able to surprise our fans at the intimate Dean Street venue today."

It's been 20 years since the That Girl and All About You hitmakers landed on the music scene, with their latest album proving they still have it two decades on.

The group recently celebrated more success as Power to Play placed at number two in the UK Albums chart after its release. Over the years they have earned two UK number one albums, and all seven albums have been in the top ten of the UK chart.

Some of their hits have done super well too, with seven UK number one singles, and 19 songs that made the top 10. Their debut single Five Colours In Her Hair stayed at number one for two weeks.
