A former Love Island star has revealed some of the behind-the-scenes rules for those entering the villa including outfit instructions and being told to stick to strict topics of conversation.

Anna-May Robey, who appeared in the winter series earlier this year, has revealed that ITV show bosses had rules for those appearing on the dating reality show including guidelines for some of the girls' outfits.

Whilst Anna-May revealed the show, as a whole, is laidback there were some firm 'no no's' for Love Islanders. For girls in particular the rules even included the banning of sequins, which could affect how an outfit would look on camera.

Speaking to the Daily Star, she revealed: "Some of us girls would be told not to wear glittery outfits as they would strobe on the camera so, I don't think I brought any sequins with me but I remember Olivia [Hawkins] had a few sequin outfits and she wasn't allowed to wear them because they were strobing on the camera."

The star also revealed the stars were prevented from discussing events that had happened earlier in case the cameras missed it, so they would often be given a topic of conversation instead.

Anna-May explained: "When we would have lunch and stuff like that, it was just a saying producers would say to us because naturally you would say 'So and so said this earlier' and you can't talk about anything because it wouldn't be on TV.

"And as the girls were separate from the boys, and we'd be like, 'What can we talk about then? And they'd be like 'Talk about Prince Harry and Meghan'."

She added: "They obviously don't want to miss anything they can put on TV, sometimes we would get told off for whispering."

The star also revealed that since her appearance on the dating show she has remained single but has hinted that she might be keen to return as a bombshell on this or a future series of Love Island.
