Kim Min-Jae could be set to go back on a ‘promise’ he gave to Manchester United should he complete a transfer to Bayern Munich.

The Napoli defender has emerged as one of the Red Devils’ primary targets this summer, with Erik ten Hag keen to bolster his defence. There were reports that the South Korean was on the verge of making the move official after United had committed to paying the release clause written into his contract in Italy.

However, his future has taken a fresh turn over the past week. Various reports have claimed that Kim is instead closing in on a move to German giants Bayern Munich.

He will reportedly pen a five-year deal at the Allianz Arena with an agreement with Napoli close. Should that move go through, Kim will be going against the word he has given to the Red Devils.

According to Corriere dello Sport, he had previously given United ‘more than a promise’ to commit to a move to Old Trafford. The developments over Kim’s future is another blow to Erik ten Hag’s transfer plans over the past week.

The Red Devils boss was also said to be keen on a move for West Ham and England star Declan Rice. However, the drawn-out takeover process has put the buffers on any deal.

It is suggested that the Glazers are not keen on handing the Red Devils a huge summer budget if they are to sell up. Those two blows are set to lead to more frustration for Ten Hag, who is already reportedly ‘furious’ at the latest developments over Rice’s future.

The Dutchman has regularly expressed his desire for serious investment this summer, regardless of the ownership situation at Old Trafford. Speaking last month, he said: "We are in the right direction, but we are not there where we have to be, there's still a long way to go, there's potential in this team and individual players.

"We showed during the season we made progress, that's a compliment to the players and the coaches, we worked really hard, but we have to make an investment. The club knows if you want to play top four, compete for trophies in this tough league then you have to invest otherwise you don't have a chance because other clubs will do."

Rice appears set to complete a move within the Premier League but not to Old Trafford, despite Luke Shaw ’s best efforts. Arsenal are currently leading the race and could be joined in the bidding by Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Kim looks set to move to Bayern after helping Napoli to the Serie A crown last term. He could have been in the Premier League before now with Jose Mourinho previously revealing Tottenham were interested in signing him from Fenerbahce, only to see the move vetoed by the Spurs board.
