After a month of waiting, the Asus ROG Ally is finally available to buy. The handheld was unveiled back in April with pre-orders opening in May, and now it's hitting shelves at last.

Savvy shoppers will have pre-ordered the Asus ROG Ally as soon as they were able, with retailers like Currys and Best Buy offering pre-orders ahead of the device's official launch on June 13. The benefit of pre-ordering the Asus ROG Ally of course is that now it's in stores, it's getting shipped out straight to your door. So you can compare it to your Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch yourself to see which is the king of the handhelds.

If you didn't get a pre-order in, you can buy the Asus ROG Ally right now so long as stocks last and your pockets are deep enough. There are two variants – the 512GB Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme which is the more powerful of the two models, and the 256GB Asus ROG Ally base model with a standard Z1 chip which will be launching later this year.

The Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme comes in at £699 / $699 / AU$1,299, while the slightly cheaper Asus ROG Ally with the standard Z1 chip will set you back £599 / $599 once it releases. The Australian Asus store still doesn't have the base model available so we don't have a confirmed price, but we're probably looking at around AU$1,000.

Bear in mind, now that pre-orders have shipped, it's going to be a bit of a free for all when it comes to where to buy the Asus ROG Ally. In the Australian Asus store, for example, the Z1 extreme model is already sold out, although a restock is on the way next week on Tuesday, June 20.

UK retailer Currys has been on the ball with the Asus ROG Ally release and was one of our recommended stores to order from and still has stock at the time of writing. A lot of retailers – Currys included – offer payment plans so you can spread the cost of purchases across a number of months. But we strongly advise you do your own research before tying yourself into a financial obligation of this size.

If you want to find out more before you commit to buying the Asus ROG Ally, you can check out our review. The short version is that it earned five stars and is – in our opinion – a better buy than Valve's Steam Deck.
