Serena Williams confirms conversations with dad Richard about tennis return

Tennis great Serena Williams has had conversations with her dad Richard about a Grand Slam return.

Last year Williams released a statement confirming she would be 'evolving away from the sport' after the US Open. The 41-year-old reached the third round at the tournament which was followed by emotional scenes during what could have been her last time playing at Flushing Meadows.

However, just two weeks after her last match the tennis star teased at a return and she has yet to full close the door on a comeback. During an interview at Williams' home farm with CBS Mornings, the American star revealed that her father is pushing for a Grand Slam return.

"I would say no for now," Williams replied when asked if there was a chance of a return.

"I've literally given my whole life to tennis and it's time for me to give my life to something else. My dad is like, 'Serena you should play one more Slam, you should play like two more Grand Slams'. And I'm like, dad like please stop."

Considered among the greatest tennis stars of all time, Williams won 23 Grand Slam singles titles along with 14 major doubles and two mixed doubles crowns. The American says that looking back at old pictures of her celebrating Grand Slam victories is painful due to missing the winning feeling.

She added: "I feel more pain just like looking at old pictures of championships or something like that. I'm like, oh I miss that.

Williams and older sister Venus were coached by her parents from a young age before turning professional shortly after her 14th birthday. Now 41 years old, Williams said she was 'evolving away' from tennis to spend more time with daughter Olympia and husband Alexis Ohanian.

When asked what she sees when looking at the tennis court in her back garden? Williams replies: "In this particular tennis court, I see me out there, I see me training, I see me grinding. I feel relief when I look at the court sometimes because I feel like I'm so happy that I don't have to train for two hours a day."
