Here are the big names who will vanish from High Street this month

Argos and Poundland are among the big name retailers closing their doors in June, with some due never to return.

Retailers plan to replace some of the closing branches with stores in new locations but others will simply vanish from high streets forever.

Dozens of major retailers vanished from shopping areas across UK towns in April, and the trend looks set to continue.

Below is a complete list of which major high street retailers are closing their doors in June 2023.

Argos has announced that it will be closing all its remaining stores in the Republic of Ireland on June 24.

The catalogue retailer’s 34 remaining stores in the RoI currently employ 580 people but all are set to close by the end of the month.

In the UK Argos is set to close another two stores while it intends to grow its presence within supermarkets.

The retailer has opened 25 Argos counters inside Sainsbury’s stores and has plans for 430 such locations to be open by 2024.

With eleven stores closed already this year Iceland stores have been melting away from high streets, but more are expected to close their doors in June 2023.

Branches in Newport, Berwick and Hexham shut their doors for good this year as well as Bromsgrove, Basingstoke and Rhyl.

Iceland's Beccle branch in Suffolk is also set to close on June 17, 2023.

Lloyds Pharmacy

Lloyds Pharmacy has announced it will close down standalone stores in Sainsbury’s supermarkets.

The plans will see 237 locations close by the end of the year.

More than 2,000 jobs are said to be a risk as a result of the plans.

The start of June will see several stores in Sainsbury’s supermarkets close down including the Lloyds Pharmacies in Newport, Derby and Chesterfield.

Meanwhile in July the locations in ainsbury's supermarkets in Kidlington and Gloucester will also shut for good.

Poundland

Only one store is set to close this month as the budget retailer works on expanding their locations.

The landlord has asked the store to move from its current location at Churchill Way Retail Park in Leyland.

The shop will close on June 23 but bargain hunters need not worry too much as the retailer is currently working in a 50-store expansion plan.

Two more shops are scheduled to open in June 2023 and 15 more are planned for August 2023.

This expansion will see new shops being added to the high street while some existing shops will be moving location.

Poundland managing director Barry Williams told The Sun: "That transformation means we have to step up our search for the best locations to bring the best of Poundland to customers across the UK and that’s precisely what we’ll do in 2023."

Other places closing in 2023

Aside from retail stores several other major names have announced they are closing branches across the UK in 2023.

Frankie and Bennie’s announced in March 2023 The Restaurant Group (TRG) is considering closing 35 sites over the next two years.

Another Italian food chain, Prezzo has also said that rising energy costs mean it will close its doors for good. Around 810 people are currently employed in the restaurant’s 46 branches.
