A savvy woman has revealed how she fed herself for less than £1 per day, and was still able to shop in Tesco.

Amid the cost of living crisis, thousands of households will be looking at how they can save their hard-earned cash, often opting to shop in supermarkets such as Lidl or Aldi.

But one woman has shown that you can still shop in one of the big four supermarkets.

Kathryn Leech, 26, revealed she just wanted to challenge herself by restricting her budget, but has said that for many families across the UK, living on such little could "be their reality."

The 26-year-old from Manchester decided to buy a whole day's worth of food for as little as £1 - and in total ended up spending just 99p.

The content creator, who regularly shares her money-saving tips on social media, has explained just how she was able to save so much money on her meals.

Kathryn explained : "I went to Tesco and purchased my food for the day which ended up totalling 99p.

"I bought tinned peaches for my breakfast and then cooked a pasta dish for my lunch.

"For dinner, I used cheap spaghetti, chopped tomatoes, onion and carrots to cook up a meal."

She added that she wanted to "challenge" herself to "eat on a very small budget to see if it is possible."

The 26-year-old continued: "For me, it was just a challenge, but for some people, it could be their reality with the way inflation and the cost of living are rising.

"Although, I think long-term it would be incredibly unhealthy as there's no way you could get in all the right nutrients on that little food.

"However, if you need to just have a few cheap meals to keep you going, it would be absolutely fine."

And Tesco shoppers have been informed that they have just over one month left to spend £16million worth of Clubcard vouchers.

The analysis shows that grocery inflation has hit 16.7%, which is the highest since their records began in 2008.
