Tributes have been paid to a 15-year-old boy who sadly died after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Loved ones and teammates say they were left heartbroken when talented young footballer Myles Christie from Wolverhampton passed away suddenly on May 24, and told in in the days since of his kind nature and glowing smile.

A keen Liverpool fan, the youngster played as a striker for Brewood Juniors Football Club in the Walsall Junior Youth League and represented the team from the age of only seven.

Myles was also known to enjoy dance, music and fashion, and one online tribute to the teen described him as a "fun-loving character".

Another family wrote: "Light up the sky with that smile and know that you are in our thoughts."

About £1,000 of this total - which will be used for memorials and the rest donated to Birmingham Children's Hospital - came from the football club alone, reports the Express and Star.

Steve Phillips, who coached Myles at Brewood Juniors, told the newspaper: "We are all truly heartbroken by the events of the last week and our thoughts are with the family who have all been with us since Myles joined at under-7s in 2014.

"The award the club have created in Myles' name is so fitting as Myles has overcome difficult circumstances personally and developed so much as a player, but also as a polite, sociable, bright young man who always played the game with a smile on his face.

"All at the club were so proud of him. We will miss our number nine."

Club chairman and founder Mac Webb meanwhile revealed that the Myles Christie Award would be given to a player selected from all age groups who had shown the greatest strength of character.

Two balloon releases have also been arranged in his memory by school friends, while a tribute wall has also been set up at his old middle school.
