Ali Jahangirov was crowned as the 2022/23 Fantasy Premier League champion after edging out second-place on a dramatic final day in England's top-flight.

Jahangirov was top heading into the final gameweek of the season and needed to fend off strong competition from several players below him to claim the title. Despite recording a below-par score of 52, it was enough for the Azerbaijani to pip AZZURI by five points - finishing on a remarkable 2776.

However, Jahangirov would have lost it if Eddie Howe didn't bring on Callum Wilson. AZZURI, named Abdullah Amr, had 15-pointer Ethan Pinnock as his first substitute, but Wilson's second-half introduction meant that Pinnock was blocked from coming on and replacing Wilson in the starting XI.

This would have been a bitter pill to swallow for AZZURI, who had a terrific Gameweek 38 and climbed from fourth to second. He brought in Harry Kane and captained the Tottenham forward for an incredible total of 32 points, while Harvey Barnes also returned as his two transfers proved a major success.

As for Jahangirov, he captained Mohamed Salah, who, despite Liverpool scoring four at Southampton, grabbed just one assist. He was heavily owned by the top-100 and any more returns for the Egyptian would have made Jahangirov feel a lot more comfortable in his pursuit for the title - though it didn't matter in the end.

Tied in third-place out of over eight-million players was Craig Marshall and Joanne Hales-Owen. Marshall, like Jahangirov, captained Salah for his five-point return, meaning he gained 10 points from his captain. However, differentials Douglas Luiz and Ollie Watkins saw him grab a podium spot with seven and nine points each.

Hales-Owen, meanwhile, owned Jacob Ramsey for his goal and two bonus points and also captained Kane, who was the highest scoring player of the gameweek. Khaled Zaki completed the top-five after he recorded an impressive 75 and brought in Jakub Kiwior for his 13-point haul.

The highest-scoring player in the top-10, however, was ninth-place Zak Bickerstaffe. He used his Free Hit chip and managed to grab 83 points, with James Tarkowski, Ollie Watkins and Kane his standout scorers. Using the Free Hit chip also meant he didn't have to use any hits (-4), like a lot of his competitors.

Jy Lye was the biggest loser on Sunday as he finished with a disappointing score of 51. He was sitting in third going into the final day but managed to drop all the way to seventh after Eberechi Eze, Callum Wilson, Marcus Rashford, Martin Odegaard and Tyrone Mings all blanked. In fact, only four of his players returned.
