The May 2023 PlayStation Showcase aired last night, treating us to just over an hour of new game reveals and our first look at some brand new PlayStation hardware.

PlayStation fans were treated to the first big PlayStation Showcase of the year (following a couple of PlayStation State of Play presentations earlier this year) showing off what PS5 and PS4 owners can look forward to over the coming months. Obviously, the biggest question going into the presentation was about whether we'd see anything of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Sony delivered, with players finally getting a proper gameplay reveal.

The new trailer showed off Miles Morales and Peter Parker chasing down the Lizard, also known as Dr. Curt Connors, through New York with Peter in full edge lord mode thanks to the Symbiote, as well our first look at one of the game's primary villains: Kraven the Hunter.

Sony also officially announced the rumoured PlayStation handheld, internally known as Project Q, which was revealed as a dedicated device which straps two sides of a DualSense to a tablet and allows players to play their PS5 games through Remote Play, with Jim Ryan unveiling the device alongside the PlayStation Earbuds.

Other big reveals included the long rumoured remake of Metal Gear Solid 3, and a collection of the original Metal Gear Solid trilogy. We also got our first look at Dragons Dogma 2 from Capcom, Bungie's next title, which is a reboot of their Marathon series as a PVP extraction shooter, and Fairgame$ – the first project from Haven Studios which was founded by Jade Raymond (who helped create Assassins Creed and Watch Dogs).

We also finally got some release dates for some highly anticipated titles, such as Alan Wake 2 and Assassins Creed Mirage which come out five days apart on October 17, and October 12, 2023 respectively (the packed 2023 release schedule won't let up it seems). Plus we were treated to the final trailers for Final Fantasy 16 and Street Fighter 6, which both come out next month.
