Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe has flummoxed Manchester United fans after his Instagram post had a translation mentioning the two clubs.

The Red Devils have been bizarrely linked with Mbappe's side - who are partially owned by one of the men interested in buying United - after the 23-year-old shared an image of himself during PSG's dismal 1-0 defeat at home to Bayern Munich on Tuesday. Mbappe, returning from injury, came off the bench in the round-of-16 first-leg tie remaining and almost earned the hosts a draw.

Following his impactful performance, focus turned to his Instagram page and an eyebrow-raising caption on his post - which United ace Marcus Rashford notably commented on using an encouraging fire emoji. Writing the words 'all that remains to be done' in French, as he looked ahead towards the second leg against Bayern in three weeks' time, a translation of Mbappe's post in English adds the claim: "Manchester United's team is now on PSG."

The bemusing translation comes just days after it emerged that United, who've been put for sale by the Glazer family, are set to be the subject of a £4.5billion bid from a Qatari investment fund led by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. Having attended Tuesday's match in Paris, Al-Thani boasts direct links with PSG, as the club are owned by the organisation he founded in 2005, Qatar Sports Investments (QSI).

He's now reportedly spearheading an effort to buy United ahead of Friday's soft deadline for proposals, with another organisation of his - the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), believed to be financing the swoop - However, UEFA rules dictate that a takeover attempt would be difficult.

The European football governing body currently prevents clubs participating in the same competition from having a shared owner. Al-Thani, though, is allegedly keen to demonstrate to UEFA that PSG and United would be be controlled by separate entities.

As for Mbappe, he's yet to explain his Instagram post but did most of his talking on the pitch as PSG narrowly lost to Bayern. Kingsley Coman 's composed effort eight minutes into the second half gives the German giants a slender one-goal advantage to take back to Munich.

Mbappe almost levelled for PSG in the dying embers, but his goal was ruled out for offside. The France international, who came agonisingly close to firing his country to World Cup glory in December, has already sent a warning to Bayern ahead of round two.

"We have to look at the end of the game, we were disadvantaged but we managed to cause them issues," Mbappe told Canal+ post-match. "We're going over there [Munich] to qualify. We worked day and night. Our players have to be in good health for the return leg, everyone needs to eat and sleep well. They're not comfortable when we play attacking football."
