Conor McGregor has demanded that Katie Taylor is given a rematch with Chantelle Cameron at Dublin's Croke Park after losing a razor-close decision last night.

The Irishman was ringside for the beloved Irishwoman's long-awaited homecoming, and contributed an hefty sum to the event's promotion as a sponsor. But he was left heartbroken when the judges scored the thrilling contest a majority decision in Cameron's favour, as the super-lightweight title stayed in the Northampton native's possession.

And speaking exclusively with Mirror Fighting after the bout, McGregor admitted that he was happy with the decision, before reminding Taylor that she is still the undisputed lightweight champion of the world. The Irishwoman has a rematch clause, and is expected to exercise it in order to earn another shot at Cameron.

"It was a great fight, a close fight, I thought that I had it a draw," McGregor said, before confirming that he wants to see the bout again, this time at the 80,000-capacity Croke Park. "Yeah I f***ing would [want the rematch]. Give her more time, she went up in weight at the drop of a hat.

"She was scheduled for one different style of opponent at a specific weight and that fell through, so last minute what does Katie do? The warrior that's in her? 'Give me something to aspire to!' She wanted to go up in weight and wanted to fight the champion at the heavier weight at the drop of a hat. Give her a chance to do it at Croke Park, for sure Croke Park is on."

McGregor, who is no stranger to jumping up in weight on short notice during his career, believes that with more time, the bout could have gone differently. He famously accepted and lost a welterweight bout with Nate Diaz in, 25lb heavier than the featherweight division where he was world champion, before winning their rematch less than six months later.

"It was a close bout," he continued. "The size was prevalent for the minute. But Katie is a tactician, give her another bash at that. I don't want to talk about me, it's all about Katie... I'd tell her to keep her head up, you're the champion, you're the Olympic champion and you're the world champion still in your division!"
