Kim Min-jae has held preliminary transfer talks with Paris Saint-Germain as interest in the Napoli defender continues to mount.

Kim, 26, has been extensively linked with Manchester United in recent months after catching the eye during the World Cup with his performances for South Korea. The former Fenerbahce star has also played an influential role in the Napoli team that lifted the Serie A title earlier this month.

Erik ten Hag is prioritising the signing of an elite striker this summer, however, the Manchester United boss is eager to bolster other areas of his squad. It was claimed earlier this week that United had held talks with Kim's representatives - but so have PSG.

According to French outlet RMC Sport, the Ligue 1 giants also have Kim on their summer wishlist and have already made their move by reaching out to the defender's representatives.

PSG sporting director Luis Campos met with Kim's entourage, who have also held talks with Manchester United. However, it has once again been stressed that Kim's preference, if he does depart Napoli after just 12 months in Italy, would be a move to the Premier League.

Earlier in the week, it was reported that Manchester United had already tabled a 'colossal' contract offer to the Napoli ace, who 'dreams' of playing in the Premier League. Kim's current contract is believed to contain a €50million (£43m) release clause. The player's agent has denied that an agreement has been struck with the Red Devils, though.

Although Manchester United need to invest in their squad this summer to build on Ten Hag's first season in charge, the ongoing takeover saga is said to be hampering transfer plans.

Almost six months after they announced they were seeking "strategic alternatives", the Glazer family are still yet to confirm whether or not they will be selling up at Old Trafford.

After three rounds of bidding, it had seemed earlier this week as though Ineos chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe was in pole position to conclude a deal which would have enabled Avram and Joel Glazer to retain a small stake in the club.

However, an eleventh hour intervention from Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has now blown the process wide open - just weeks before the transfer window is set to officially open.

Ten Hag admitted earlier this month that he is still in the dark over how much he'll have to spend this summer, but United are expected to supplement the Dutchman's budget by offloading a number of fringe players.

The likes of Harry Maguire, Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek could be at risk if there is sufficient interest in their services after struggling to make an impression under Ten Hag.
