Eurovision fans question 'mic issues' as Mae Muller wows crowd with performance

Eurovision Song Contest hopeful Mae Muller wowed the crowed on Saturday night, as the UK entry performed her track I Wrote A Song during the live 2023 final - but many viewers at home confessed they "couldn't hear" the performance.

Mae pulled off an energetic and catchy performance and was the last of the 26 acts to perform on the night.

She received huge cheers from those in the arena as her track came to an end, but now her fate lies in the voters from across the world.

But if the crowd's reactions are anything to go by, Mae could have a shot at being as successful as last year's UK entry Sam Ryder.

TikTok star Sam bagged second place with his song SPACE MAN last year, and now there's high hopes for this year's UK entry too.

That said, viewers watching at home complained of major sound and microphone issues, with many left asking what was going on.

Viewers tweeted that her microphone was to low and they couldn't hear her singing, while those in the arena didn't seem to notice.

Many viewers were cheering her on throughout, and as the song came to an end it was clear she had the UK's vote - while unfortunately the UK cannot vote for their own act.

But not everyone was onboard with the performance, with some not convinced it was a winner and many suggesting there were sound issues.

Taking to Twitter, some fans asked if anyone else had noticed the apparent sounding faults as one viewer said: " Mae’s mic didn’t seem loud enough."

Another viewer said: "mic not working nightmare!" while a third added: "did someone turn off her mic or?"

The comments kept on coming too, with another reading: "Somebody turn her mic on!"

But others loved the performance, with a fan tweeting: "I thought Mae was a great and did a engaging performance and vocal. Chuffed. "

A second said: "Mae did so much better than I expected both in the jury final and tonight. The mic was a bit low but she slayed it."

Another fan tweeted: "Epic performance Mae," as a fourth commented: "Excellent from Mae Muller! Catchy song."

Some viewers had been worried for Mae after learning she would be last to perform.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer said: "It's nice knowing that the UK is performing last tomorrow night but also it really didn't go well for us last time we performed last."

Another said: "26th not the best place to be, most people already have a favourite song by then."

A third viewer commented: " Mae muller on last," with a worried face emoji, while a fourth said: "singing last, cannot be good."

However, some fans disagreed with this view as one said: "It seems we’ll be the last act performing in the #Eurovision Song Contest this year - this probably benefits us, as unfortunately songs at the start can risk being a little forgotten by the time the voting begins. So it might help us a little!"

The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 is available to watch on BBC iPlayer now.
